Sweden accused of being very good at greenwashing ,this was done by Greta Thunberg and 50 other activists outside her home country’s parliament. Greta Thunberg said that Sweden is unfortunately not unique in completely ignoring the climate crisis, not treating it as an emergency at all. But actively trying to greenwash, deceive and lie in order to make it seem like they are doing enough and that they are moving in the right direction, when in fact the exact opposite is happening.

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg on Friday was cleared of a public order offense over a protest at an oil and gas conference in October. Thunberg was arrested Oct. 17 outside the InterContinental London Park Lane hotel after joining hundreds of protesters at an “Oily Money Out” demonstration organized by Fossil Free London and Greenpeace. Oil executives had been meeting inside the hotel on the first day of the Energy Intelligence Forum, formerly known as the Oil and Money conference. Thunberg appeared at London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court this week alongside two Fossil Free London protesters and two Greenpeace protesters. All five defendants pleaded not guilty after being accused of breaching Section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986 by failing to move their protest to a designated area. The judge in the London court ruled she had no case to answer, and also acquitted the other defendants. “The prosecution evidence is insufficient for any reasonable court to properly convict and I exercise my discretion to acquit all five defendants,” Judge John Law said to applause in the gallery, according to Reuters. https://www.nbcnews.com/science/environment/climate-activist-greta-thunberg-cleared-public-order-offense-london-oi-rcna136983?cid=sm_npd_nn_tw_ma&taid=65bd312e0ac2a30001db1dde&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter

The Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg joined a protest from Farnborough town centre, in Hampshire, to Farnborough airport alongside local residents and Extinction Rebellion activists to protest against an airport expansion plan. This is after Farnborough airport commits to increase number of flights amid calls for a ban on private jets Farnborough Airport Ltd has submitted a planning application to Rushmoor borough council to increase the number of flights from 50,000 to 70,000 a year. This is devastating especially noting that there will be more private jets in this airport. Activists called for a total ban on private jets, which they say are up to 30 times more polluting than passenger airliners. “The fact that using private jets is both legally and socially allowed today in an escalating climate emergency is completely detached from reality,” Thunberg said. “There are few examples that show as clearly how the rich elite is sacrificing present and future living conditions on this planet so they can maintain their extreme and violent lifestyles.” Source - The Guardian Read More - https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/jan/27/greta-thunberg-joins-protest-against-expansion-of-hampshire-airport

Greta Thunberg was detained by British police on Tuesday alongside other climate activists who gathered outside a central London hotel to disrupt a meeting of oil and gas company executives. Thunberg was among dozens of protesters who chanted “oily money out” and attempted to block access to the InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane, which is hosting the Energy Intelligence Forum. The conference is hosting speakers, including the chief executives of Saudi Arabia’s Aramco and Norway’s Equinor, as well as the U.K.’s energy security minister. An Associated Press photographer saw Thunberg being led away by officers and taken into a police vehicle, along with about 10 other activists. https://apnews.com/article/uk-climate-protest-greta-thunberg-b6eaf08ceb08075d2a51121a448735e1

Even though Greta got a fine for an earlier climate action in June, she and other young climate activists very soon did another action of stopping fossil fuel transports in Malmö, Sweden. This is the debate article from the activist organisation "Ta tillbaka framtiden" which did the actions in June and July, where they argue for their actions: https://www.expressen.se/debatt/darfor-blockerar-vi-fossila-transporter/ We are in a climate urgency - since earlier climate actions haven't led to politics in line with the Paris Agreement, the climate movement needs to find other (more direct/radical) methods.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has canceled an appearance at the Edinburgh International Book Festival after accusing one of the festival’s main sponsors of greenwashing. Thunberg announced her decision to pull out of the event in a statement shared by the festival on Friday, outlining her belief that as a climate activist she cannot attend an event sponsored by investment management firm, Ballie Gifford, due to its connections with the fossil fuel industry. She was set to speak at the 3,000 seat Playhouse Theatre in Edinburgh on August 13 to discuss her appeal for climate action in an event titled: “Greta Thunberg: It’s Not Too Late to Change the World.” https://www.cnn.com/2023/08/04/world/greta-thunberg-edinburgh-intl-scli-climate/index.html

Greta Thunberg has pulled out of a much anticipated event at the Edinburgh International Book Festival. She cited a sponsor's heavy investments in fossil fuel and accusing them of greenwashing. The 20-year-old Swedish activist argued that she as a climate activist, cannot attend an event which receives sponsorship from Baillie Gifford who invest heavily in the fossil fuel industry. "Greenwashing efforts by the fossil fuel industry including sponsorship of cultural events allow them to keep the social license to continue operating.I cannot and do not want to be associated with events that accept this kind of sponsorship," she went on to say. https://www.euronews.com/green/2023/08/04/greta-thunberg-pulls-out-of-edinburgh-book-festival-over-greenwashing

A Swedish court has given Greta Thunberg and hundreds of other climate activists the go-ahead to proceed with a class action lawsuit against the Swedish state for “insufficient climate policy”. Swedish Thunberg, and 600 other young activists in a group called Aurora, launched proceedings in November, claiming the state had to do more to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius in order to live up to the European Convention on Human Rights. https://www.watoday.com.au/world/europe/court-allows-greta-thunberg-activists-to-sue-sweden-over-climate-20230322-p5cuau.html “The health and future of the planet, and that of ours, is directly dependent on whether or not our politicians recognize the seriousness of the climate crisis, and so Aurora wants to do everything we can to get you to do so,” the group said in an open letter to the Swedish government last year.

Norway’s energy minister cancelled a trip to Britain on Wednesday because of a protest against a wind farm that campaigners say hinders the rights of the Sami indigenous people to raise reindeer in Arctic Norway. They are protesting against a wind farm that’s still operating despite a ruling by Norway’s Supreme Court in October 2021 that the construction of the wind turbines violated the rights of the Sami, who have been using the land for reindeer for centuries. On Tuesday, Mr. Aasland spoke to the activists, some of whom donned the Sami’s traditional bright-colored dress, saying the government will make a “new decision” on the wind farm, but he could not give any specifics “until we have a sufficient knowledge basis for it”. That infuriated the activists who said in a statement that “our will to fight is only growing after Terje Aasland’s visit with the same empty words as always”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf5vV1-1rQ0 https://www.cityam.com/greta-thunberg-norway-oil-uk-visit/
