The Dutch organisation Fossielvrij NL, supported by ClientEarth and Reclame Fossielvrij, filed the first lawsuit alleging greenwashing in the airline industry in the District Court of Amsterdam on Wednesday. "KLM has ... stuck by the false message that it is on the path to more sustainable flying," said Hiske Arts, a campaigner at Fossielvrij NL. "There is no way it can do this while planning continuous air traffic growth that will fuel the breakdown of our climate." KLM, which says it has invested millions of euros in a more sustainable fleet and is working towards the industry goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, met with the groups before the suit was filed, but failed to find a solution. "It would certainly not be in our interests to misinform our customers. Itβs our responsibility to make future travel as sustainable as possible," the airline said in a statement sent to Reuters. I hope they win and teach a good lesson to KLM-. https://www.euronews.com/green/2022/07/06/klm-airline-accused-of-greenwashing-adverts-which-encourage-responsible-flying-in-the-neth

I don't know about this. Why are environmental organizations always targeting the companies trying to do the right thing instead of targeting those that are not doing anything at all? I have a hard time understanding this: Campaigners want to stop KLM's 'Fly Responsibly' adverts, claiming they violate the Dutch implementation of the EU's 'Unfair Consumer Practices Directive' by giving the false impression its flights will not exacerbate the climate crisis. KLM has a campaign encouraging people to travel by train if they don't travel long. I don't see why KLM should stop that or be punished because of it. We must focus on the solutions. If the solution is not good enough. Let's improve them, not sue the one trying to improve. Let's sue the companies doing nothing. Not those that are trying. Let's help KLM improve, not by suing them but by having a constructive dialogue.

@Rentzhog and others. The last email I received from KLM last week was something like "fly to exotic destinations during the summer" before that was "fly for cheaper" and so on, the usual messaging that has been encouraging mass tourism for decades which is one of the reasons that led us where we are now. It's not sustainable. It is said that the environmental groups had a dialogue with KLM and couldn't find an agreement. I think that in this case, a legal case is a good solution so both parties can defend their position in a neutral arena. As Andreas puts it: "The question with KLM is whether this just a marketing stunt or as a real, operative progress" will be answered by the court and I do believe that's the best way to do it. Also, notice that I didn't send a warning to KLM :) so I appreciate that they are trying to change, but I am not sure they are walking the talk. I don't think KLM should stop their business, but when they are sending me an email to tell me to fly to Palma in the current context, I want them to be transparent about the impact of this flight.
