This is an enriching session. Yes I can do many things alone, but I can do lot many things "when you stand by me". It is so crucial to stand by each other during this climate emergency. It is so heartening to connect through the song at the end. The plan for below 1.5 degree is a great idea. It was great to see the elder brothers and sisters of weather kids from Iran, Mali, Dominica, Canada, Rowanda, Brazil, Denmark, Morocco, Ecuodor, North M., USA, Mongolia, Lebanon, Pakistan, Republic of Maltova, Kenya to come forward and demanding for climate action and intervention for air pollution in most respectfully and lovingly manner from the global leaders at the beginning. It was morally boosting to listen for bold climate action in 3rd generation NDC. Ofcourse, it is worth trying for below 1.5 degree through NDC and it's implementations. UN head reminded us that Coparnico climate services has identified this March as hottest Match but still everything is not gloom and doom. UNDP is supporting 128 countries for preparation of NDCs. Energy, Landuse, Agriculture is to be emphasised. Here, I would most humbly add "water", which is surely in the list but most probably has not been mentioned in the excellent speech. The OECD countries are asked for mandatory phasing out of coal by 2030. He has not only provided the to do list but also called for moving the money. He has asked the G20 countries, whose contribution is 80% in GHG emission to lead in ways to move the money towards clean and green investment. He asked for redirecting the fund flows to relieve the countries, which are suffocating with debt. Loss and damage find is a possible source. Fossil fuel is a common enemy in a world where cost of ice is more than cost of bread and rice. Inaction is leading to erosion of trust in global leadership. Rebuilding of trust is so much important. Heat wave is devastating from Jamanica to Mali. It was great to listen to the actions initiated by all the world leaders who participated in the discussion including UAE, current presidency. The ambition, assertion, determination are contagious. It feels everything is possibly when "you stand by me". Moving the money movement of WDHT is gaining momentum past. Communication and collaboration are the keys. Gratitude for showing path of breaking the glass by connecting the hearts. Accolade for the moderator. UNCCC is providing support to the countries for support ecosystem and NDCs through workshops and webinars. These are sessions for consensus buildings. PS: Initially https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoTMUlMJvlk&t=7s I posted a comment after watching the live session and cherishing it but my post was becoming rather long. I, therefore, writing a review for expressing my love and gratitude for UN and WDHT for such positive leaderships and pushing climate plans to set target below 1.5 degree. I shall update this post within next 24 hours again as now I shall have to stop for taking few actions in my work area.. Advance apologies for inconveniences.

Happy Earth Day I have a suggestion. We all know that we are facing acute shortage in ground water storage in many parts of different countries. Can we have city specific ground water forecasting like weather forecasting with ground water news just like weather news. It shall help the citizens to plan and regulate water abstraction and water use in informed manner. It is expected to reduce sharp decline of ground water level. Happy Earth Day Again.

The impressive ATR (Action Taken Report) of Soderberg & Partners shows that money is surely moving in right direction many cases. The company is providing much needed support to the green business, nature based solutions and other agencies which are working in field of sustainability and Climate Change. Seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been set by United Nations and these are known as UNSDGs. UN has also provided a deadline to meet UNSDGs by 2030. Worldwide performance of attaining UNSDGs is still far behind from being satisfactory. In this context the Sustainability report 2023, which shows the SDGs of the company, performance indicators and level of target achieved, stands out (link is available). The UNSDG 12 and UNSDG 13 has been described in first and second place in the report which gives an idea about the priorities of this agency. The objective reporting about 9 UNSDGs ( 12,13,4,10,5,8, 11, 7) unambiguously defines the scope chosen by this agency for work an investment. Under UNSDG 12 upheld responsible consumption and production. This 2023 report suggests that in course of finding out and facilitating UNSDG 12, 3745 financial and insurance products have been analyzed. Under UNSDG 13, climate dialogues are being facilitated. The work is done by 3737 employees in 7 countries. Out of 3737 employees 58% is male employee and 42% is female employee. It is hoped that 50:50 ratio of men and women workers (as are now in UK and Netherland) shall also be strived in other countries. The Tables on Carbon footprint provide the scope of reducing GHG emission more. The report also has a brief ESG (Environmental. Social and Governmental factors) analysis. Overall the ATR is good one and can be set as an example to be followed by other companies. https://online.flippingbook.com/view/198226373/10-11/#zoom=true

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGCWjdFvPAY https://pace.gsfc.nasa.gov/ In Earth Day media briefing on last Friday NASA has not only unveiled the new elements of climate research but Bill Nelson, administrator of NASA declared NASA as an agency for climate research in addition to the great space research agency, NASA already is. This is not just a remark as part of a ritual of observing the Earth Day in 2024. National Aeronautics of Space Administration mean it. Astronauts of NASA belong to the rare league of scientists who are blessed to see the “pale blue dot” in the vast dark universe from their spaceships and are thus blessed to feel very deeply that far away tiny dot is the only home, which we humans have. Watching out planet from outside, surviving with minimum possible resources in space station for the sake of science inspired the space scientists to love the earth more from a deeper soul connection and to value whatever resources we enjoy in this earth more. In response to the inner call, NASA has taken up different research programmes that can make this planet a better place for living. NASA is already providing real time data to people from their observations so that “right data at right time” can enable us to take the right decision in right time. PACE mission is one such programme. PACE stands for Phytoplankton, Aerosol, Cloud, Ocean Ecosystem. PACE has already started to deliver useful information. PACE mission information shows that the tip of Africa, where maximum whales and sharks are present. Whales and sharks crowd because maximum food is available. Indian Ocean and Atlantic Ocean meets in this location and meeting of two oceans turns the tip of Africa a unique location, where swirl of water brings more phytoplankton. Food attracts hungry sharks and whales. Tiniest planktons have huge impact in food chain and in lives of largest living beings like whales. HARP 2 is being used for generation of this data. Full form of HARP 2 is Hyper Angular Rainbow Polarimeter 2. Polarimeter is a scientific instrument, which is used to measure optical rotations. The information is going to help the ocean scientists. https://pace.oceansciences.org/harp2 .htm defines "HARP2 (Hyper-Angular Rainbow Polarimeter #2) is a wide angle imaging polarimeter designed to measure aerosol particles and clouds, as well as properties of land and water surfaces. The amount and type of particles in suspension in the atmosphere are relevant to applications pertaining to health effects, cloud life cycle and precipitation, climate, etc. HARP2 will combine data from multiple along track viewing angles (up to 60), four spectral bands in the visible and near infrared ranges, and three angles of linear polarization to measure the microphysical properties of the atmospheric particles including their size distribution, amount, refractive indices and particle shape." In other words this is enabling scientists to understand the world of tiniest particles in a much deeper level. NASA is providing information not only to the ocean scientists but also to the people, who need different types of data for different reasons. Peasants need weather data for better farming and forest-fire fighters need the data for dousing the fire. Under PACE, NASA has taken up six campaigns to improve insights and address data demands in following six areas: Arctic coastal changes to observe changes in Alaska region due to climate change. Clouds from forest fires in Canada and USA – forest fires lead to formation of a tall cloud Pyroculonimbus, (Pyro means fire), (Nimbus mean tall) Air pollutions in the city (neighbourhood scale health impacts due to air pollutants in North America) How draughts and rainfall change the landscape – Draught dries the region first and then rain washes out the dry lands and dry trees causing huge erosion and alteration of existing characteristics of land Glacial changes (Growth and retreats of glaciers) Agriculture (The objective is to inform the farmers about latest moisture content, helping in decision making about when to sow) Most of the information obtained from PACE as available in earth information center shall also be made available in Google https://earth.gov . NASA is collaborating with all NOAA and all other concerned agencies to bring the best information to people. NASA also resonates the key message of IPCC scientists, which was highlighted by one visionary political leader Terresa Riberra during Stockholm Conference: “what we have today shall define our tomorrow or day after tomorrow”. Karen another great scientist of NASA remembers that three decades ago NASA started using ocean altimeters to measure depth of ocean in different points accurately. Karen St. as a new entrant worked diligently in calibrating those new measurement tools. Now Karen St. Director of PACE programme and information generated by those altimeters for past thirty years are immensely helping in PACE Mission. What the fresher had done thirty years back is reaping great benefits to the Director of Mission today. NASA is also taking up a programme NISAR with ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization) in changes of frozen earth shall be monitored to very small resolutions https://nisar.jpl.nasa.gov/. What NASA is trying today is going to help us in stewardship towards a better tomorrow. NASA is doing what NASA can do and now it is our turn to use the right information in right time for right action to make a change for better. The “pale bule dot” now needs many actions and movements for sustaining life lovingly and celebrating many more earth days.

https://youtu.be/2WiDE17Imlo?si=d_XZJkdnxsOPXVNs We don't have time has come a long way in past six years. The voices of concerned climate scientists in the emphatic video of 22.04.2018 has now become far more louder , clearer and stronger because WDHT is pursuing the activists, financers, political leaders, students, citizens - everyone and enabling to coalesce to take action. The platform which once captured battle of one lone little girl for climate action is now hosting voices of so many youngsters. It is heartiest to know that the push of WDHT through "leaked draft" is influencing the decision makers towards the right choices like adoption of directive on energy performance of buildings and is expected to take right direction at this crucial cross road. The phenomenal growth of WDHT in past six years has many milestones. #Move the money campaign is one of the most courageous stances. Good work and hard work may or may not pay instantly but good work has to be continued because good work of today shall bring good results for tomorrow of day after tomorrow. T Let us celebrate the journey of "We don't have time" and look forward for climate success.

https://app.wedonthavetime.org/posts/07f5f1f8-8124-4ce0-b261-f605df12de07 We Don't have time very timely has brought one news in front of the global citizens' forum, which needs to be read with care and which needs to be intervened strategically. WDHT informs about a "leaked" document, which indicates that climate action may not be considered as a core strategy for next five years. United States was removed by the then US President from Global climate leadership in 2015 when Paris Agreement was signed by rest of the world. This vacuum was filled by leadership of EU (European Union). The Strategy document of EU under name and style: " A New Strategy Agenda 2019 - 2024" wisely provided framework for prioritizing four core are: 1. Protecting citizens and freedoms 2. Developing our economic base: The European model for the future 3. Building a climate neutral, green fair and social Europe 4. Promoting Europe's interests and values in the world The world has witnessed excellent initiatives in field of climate change under leadership of European countries or with European support and fundings. The Green Deal of EU inspired many other countries. The webpage of Green Deal says: "The European Commission has adopted a set of proposals to make the EU's climate, energy, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels". Circular economy has been realized into implementation. Thoughtful initiatives of European citizens inspired people in other countries for taking actions. A lot of progress is also seen at EU front in digital security during this period. It seems that the two ongoing wars have dented the courage and confidence of the European leadership to forge ahead for a greener and sustainable world. The fear of escalation of war is pushing EU for shifting the focus. The "leaked document", which is shared by WDHT suggests that climate change has not been prioritized by in draft strategy document, which means the framework under which climate actions were gaining momentum, shall now be weakened considerably. The world shall miss the leading role of European countries in field of climate change. Again, a vacuum shall be created exactly when far more stronger climate actions are required to cut down Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission drastically. If the global greenhouse gas emissions are allowed to increase, then its pitfalls shall continue to hit the entire world very hard. Strengthening security and defense without fortifying community resilience can be tricky in era of climate change. Let us a take the example of city of Catania. The electrical cables of this Sicilian city melted in last July 2023, leaving hundreds and thousands without water and electricity. The city was not ready for a 46.7-degree C temperature. Such disruption in power cable in one city node can thwart the cyber security of a world-wide connected network. Climate Change is causing involuntary migrations. Addressing migration without working on one of the root causes of migration like climate change is like watering the plant after cutting it's roots! United Nations is consistently appealing to the world for fortifying the climate actions. Simon Stiell, UN Climate Change is reaching out to the nations across the world for preparation of NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions) version 3 with stronger climate actions ( https://app.wedonthavetime.org/posts/c82ce4b0-066c-4014-844e-f06bb330ee31#/ ). The recent webinars by UN to support countries of Latin America, Pacific, Sub-suharan Africa clearly indicates that climate solutions are available. There is no need to take a recourse because climate finance can also be arranged as funding agencies and banks are coming forward with funds for renewables and nature-based solutions. Indeed developmental banks are ready to fund the projects of climate change because cost of climate inaction is much higher. leading organizations of civil and construction engineering, urban planner like ASCE (Americal Society for Civil Engineers), ICLEI Canada are facilitating climate solutions not only for philanthropic reasons but also for hard facts that devastations of infrastructures by flooding and other extreme weather conditions are putting too much stress on all concerned including engineering fraternity. The call for moving the money is also supported by UN leader. The WCEF (World Circular Economy Forum) is just beginning. Partmeship of Europe and Africa has initiated many projects for fulfilling SDGs. Climate Scientists and activists have been cautioning about the climate change from very beginning. Engineers and Medical Practitioners are coming up with solutions for adaptation and mitigation because the professional now know that climate threat is real. Developmental banks are showing good intentions. Nations are collectively showing willingness for carbon neutral future. All these are happening because the climate change impacts us at every level. The uncertainty caused by climate stress and climate disasters threatens our right to live a quality life. Overlooking climate action is actually denying citizen's right to live a quality life. Defense or development both demand climate proofing. Simon Stiell, UN Executive Secretary, is reminding in every session that preparation of NDC 3 with stronger climate ambition may be our last chance for survival in a world with dignity and human rights. The fear of climate change is always lurking behind every war and social conflicts. It seems that WDHT has raised an issue which surely demands attention and action from all concerned.

https://app.wedonthavetime.org/posts/2eafa321-1c40-46d8-a964-84cbc9956abf UNDP in collaboration with WMO launched a climate campaign on Weather kids, where kids from 80 different countries came up with weather forecast. The creativity and deep messages about future weather and climate solutions from innocent voices immediately touch our hearts. The language of truth, hope and faith is more powerful than any the language of humans. It is irrelevant, in which language these kids are speaking. The impact in our mind in undeniable and long-lasting. This campaign is launched on 21.03.2024 through a programme , which was webcasted on 21.03.2024 and is available in YouTube in following link. The programme was graced by Professor Celeste Saulo, Secretary WMO, Ms Agi Veres, Director, Geneva Office, UNDP, Ms Lauren Stuart, Scientific Officer, Mr Boaz Paldi, Chief Creative Officer UNDP, Mr Ingmar Rentzhog,Ms Marie-Clarie Graf, Future leaders Network, Ms Rosa Sangiorgio, Head of ESG, Mr Rajan Sings Earth X, Mr Mathew Wilson, PR & Ambassador, Barbadose and other luminaries. Professor Celeste Saulo in her opening remark observed the transformational journey of weather news from last minute broad casting after regular radio and TV news to today's "The news" -status. Weather forecasts are now crucial for clean power generation because wind and solar power generation depends on weather parameters. Weather information is the backbone of different services provided the National Meteorological and Hydrological Organizations. It indeed empowers everyone. I stayed few days in a remote village in Kashipur block of Purulia district of West Bengal, India in 2017-2018 and there I have seen how the sms generated through processing AWS (Automatic Weather Station) data is helping poorer tribal women to decide when to cut the vegetable in her backward to avoid damages from sudden rain. These women prefer not to wear their best dresses in their friends' wedding if there is a forecasting of heavy rain, because she knows that rain can spoil her last remaining favorite sari (dress). Informed decision making empower them to protect their possessions. These AWS-s were installed under first Adaptation Fund (AF) project of India. Weather forecasting is used in many known as well as many unknown sectors like road repair, organizing meeting and many more. Professor Saulo very rightly pointed out that everyone aspires for development, because it links our past and present to future. Infact ideal sustainable development should link our past and present to a happy and stable future. Our children and their children and their children deserve that happy and sustainable future. It is the responsibility of the present generation to take action to keep the target of ' limiting global temperature rise within 1.5 deg' alive. July 2023 was the hottest single month. In northern hemisphere, after equinox in June 2023, temperature is supposed to start to decline. Maximum rise of temperature in July 2023, therefore, indicates serious climate threats. In a video message Dr. Abullah Al Mandous, President, WMO gave us an idea about vast weather monitoring coverage of WMO, that comprises 11000 surface stations, 1300 upper air stations, 1200 buoys, 348 satellites, 1111 radar stations, 3000 aircrafts, 52 data center, 26 geostationary monitoring, 6 tropical cyclone monitoring, 141 special centers for work and research. This weather monitoring network is impressive but it needs immediate expansion for addressing the growing demand of location specific forecast. This demand for better weather information is substantiated by informative short video on climate actions by Zimbabwe and other countries. Access to renewable power in remote locations are ensuring safe surgeries, proper storage of vaccines in refrigerators without long power cut and eventually contributing to community health. I hope these benefits shall also be taken account, while doing a cost benefit analysis of renewables. More specific weather information shall improve efficiency of cleaner power generation. Dr. Agi Veres, UNDP emphasized on need for individual actions and policy interventions. She resonated with the Professor Saulo's opinion that children are our hope and responsibility. Their power to influence the decision of their parents for climate sensibility deserves applaud. She shared how UNDP is helping countries to set NDCs (Nationally Determined Contribution) in SAPCCs (State Action Plan on Climate Changes). Local youths are being engaged in few countries for mapping urban heat islands. These participatory methods enable the youth to understand the science and to generate meaningful information. In fire-side discussion Lauren Stuart, (who was a weather kid of 6 years in 2000 and has now transmuted to a scientist in WMO in 2024) and Boaz Paldi once again highlighted the need for story telling for information dissemination and consensus building. The weather kid videos are designed with such an human appeal that no one can disagree to the need for climate action. Ms Marie Clair-Grap,h has seen the fear about future in young minds and mistrust of the youth in government action for climate. In response, She has built "Future Network". Her vibrant moderation and warm participation by the panelists made the panel discussion for limiting temperature rise within 1.5 degree very lively. The action taken by Barbados can be exemplary for other island-countries. Rosa Sangiogio, Head ESG proposed to alter the carbon pricing system by calculating the externalities of fossil fuel industry. July 2023 was hottest single month and fossil fuel industry enjoyed maximum profit in 2023. Causality can be easily found. This scenario can change if such externalities of fossil fuel combustion are incorporated in financial calculations by the financial institutions. Financial Institutions is a bridge between people with money and people with idea. Ingmar Rentozhog, We Dont have Time showed beautifully that the subsidy of US$ 7 Trillion in fossil fuel can be moved to renewable sector which now annually require US$ 4.5 Trillion. Idea for expediting the whole process is waited for effective implementation. He is spear heading the "Move the Money " campaign. It seems finance should also be channelized for more efficient weather and climate services. The commemoration of World Meteorological Day, which was on 23.03.2024 has been celebrated with fruitful discussions and actions on 21.03.2024. UNDP, WMO, WDHT all deserve climate accolade for success of this programme.

We Don’t Have Time (WDHT) TV and UNEP Climate and Clean Air Coalition jointly has hosted a webinar on removal of non-CO2 GHGs well in advance of the BIG COP in Brazil in 2030. Methane, Hydroflurocarbons, Nitrous Oxide and ground level Ozone are major non-CO2 GHGs (Green House Gases). Black Carbon or soot is solid particle which have serious health impacts, which also play a crucial role in governing earths energy balance. Removal of these substances from mitigation can fast forward overall global GHG mitigation drive. Global GHG emission can be halved by 2030. Global Warming Potentials (GWPs) of non-CO2GHGs like Hydroflurocarbons, Nitrous Oxide and ground level Ozone are high enough. GWP is a measure of potential of these substances to heat the atmosphere in comparison to same amount of CO2. GWP of methane is 30 means 1 ton of Methane traps as much heat in atmosphere as 30 tonnes of CO2 captures. Most of these non-CO2 GHGs stay in atmosphere for shorter period than CO2 and, therefore, GWP of these substances when considered over longer time period decline. However, removal of these substances, which are with higher heat capturing potential in short time span, shall help in bending the global temperature rise faster in near future. Combustion of Fossil Fuels is the root cause of air pollution and Climate Change. These two crises are, therefore, frequently being dealt simultaneously for finding the way forwards. WDHT webcasted “Action for Climate and Clean Air – Policy”, Part 2 on 13.03.2024. Martina Otto, Head CCAC (Climate Change Air Coalition) Secretariat, UNEP, Heather Adir-Rohani, Unit Head, Energy and Health, World Health Organization (WHO), and senior officials from Brazil, Ghana and USA joined the discussion in the day two of the webinar on climate change and air pollution. The lively panel discussion on Day 2 was moderated by Nick Nuttall. Formulation of apt policies by Government is prerequisite for implementation of best science and technologies in field. Day 2 of 3 part-programme was on Government Policies. UNEP and WHO representatives indicated possible way forwards. The representatives of three nations shared policies, action programmes and success stories. This webcasting appears to be a modest beginning for resolving another long-standing mitigation challenge in context of climate change and air pollution. Martina Otto, UNEP representative set the tone of discussion with appropriate balance of positivity and concerns. She expressed her concern because the specific programs for non-CO2 greenhouse gas removals are included in NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions) of only 50% countries. Remaining nations are yet to commit for reduction of global non-CO2 emission. National Determined Contribution indicates how much GHG a country is going to reduce over a time period as part of their global commitment to combat climate change. It is now being estimated about 50% of global warming is caused by NonCO2 GHGs and removal of these substances shall decelerate the global temperature rise rapidly. Scientists are cautioning about crossing 1.5 deg C threshold. This call for urgent policy interventions by counties to meet reductions targets. Having the right policy for mitigations of non-CO2 GHGs is a crucial step to steer the removal processes in right direction. She hinted that business opportunities shall be unlocked with smart moves leading to removal of substances like Methane. She indicated that climate financing can be made available for mitigations of non-CO2 GHGs, if the countries prepare effective policies and plans. Removal of industrial methane emission can be profitable, while the frameworks are to be made more lucrative for encouraging the governments to adapt such non-CO2- GHG removal programmes. Waste is one of the sources of non-CO2 GHGs. Waste sector is usually managed by local Government. Enabling local government in better waste management helps in GHG reduction as well as in empowerment. Food waste, which is a major source of methane emission should be dealt with priority attention. Apparently, prevention of wasting of food by saving food in food bank is a good idea. But longer storage of food may compromise health and safety requirement. Alternatively, use of wasted food for energy generation can unlock new energy sources. Heather Adair-Roheni, unit Head, WHO championed the need for collective actions involving environment, energy and health sector together. She highlighted that 7 million deaths are caused by air pollution every year and this cannot be allowed to continue. Air pollutants, which are emitted from combustion of fossil fuel burning vary widely in types and chemical compositions, which makes the process of air quality management a diverse and complex task. Methane, Nitrous Oxides, HFCs are few major non-CO2-GHGs. Each of these gases are emitted from different sources and need different control mechanisms. In response to the question from the moderator, she suggested that Fine Particulate matter can be taken as a surrogate pollutant. Fine Particulate may also have fingerprints of non-CO2 substances. Fine Particulates reach human lungs very easily and cause severe damages. Removal of fine particulates shall improve the overall air quality from human health perspectives. Constant persuasion resulted in active participation of 143 countries in climate and health programmes. Demand for better health from people shall drive the governments to subsidize renewables and to enjoy less polluted days. Channelization of money for health shall be helpful. Kimber Scavo, Foreign Affairs Officer of state, US Department of State shared that USA has well-rounded policy for combating climate change and the air pollution. Energy, transport and environment are well covered in the US policies but there is still vast scope of improvement in land use policy. United State Environment Protection Agency (US EPA) has formulated methane removal policy in December 2023. Removal of fossil fuel combustion and Methane can address air pollution and climate change simultaneously. Stringent tail pipe emission norms are already in place. Country wide infrastructure has been created to popularize electric vehicles. Satisfactory progress in visible in electrification of transport which directly improves air quality. The policies and action plans are now missing out in areas, where behavioral changes can make a huge difference. Making healthy choices shall enable citizens to enjoy better health and sustaining business.US representative is hopeful that huge momentum has been generated in USA and with signing global Methane pledge, revision of national climate action plan in 2024, many more action pants points shall be included for removal of non-CO2-GHG emission. Redirecting fossil fuel subsidy for subsidizing renewables and non-CO2 removal shall add impetus in advancement in non-CO2 GHG removal. Amazing advancement has been made in field of air quality and climate change in Ghana. Peter Dery, Ghana shared a few glimpses of those advancements. Emission tax, identification of emission sources for non-CO2 greenhouse gas removal are already a part of action plan in Ghana. Subsidy for fossil fuel has been stopped in Ghana. Conditions have been imposed for no flaring and no venting from oil and gas industries. 8.5 MW off renewable energy is a connected to grid. In remote locations mini grids run by renewable are being set up so that citizens can enjoy electric vehicles. Bio gas from compost plants, use of cleaner cookstoves, control of methane emissions from rice production are being tried to attract better finance. It is estimated that 24 million tonnes of CO2 can be removed from the atmosphere by private sector. Use of Article 6 of COP can open new avenues of financing for the private counterparts. Bruno Brazil, Ministry of Agriculture, Brazil informed that Brazil has prepared sectoral policy to combat climate change in way back in 2010 for agriculture sector. This policy has provision for inoculation of Nitrogen by bacteria in the crop roots instead of application of fertilizer. Fertilizers causes emission of Nitrous Oxide (N2O), whose GWP is 298. Capturing Nitrogen by inoculation removes the possibilities of high GWP N2O emission. Inoculation process has been tried in 50 million acres of land. About 21 million tons of CO2 equivalent has been less emitted between 2010-2019. This endeavor is more praiseworthy because government has provided only loans and not subsidies, yet inoculation has been found to be 10 times cheaper. 70 billion U.S. dollar are saved between 2010-2019 through this inoculation techniques. He expressed hope that Brazil shall forge faster by signing global pledge for methane emission reduction. Inoculation in agriculture shall be strengthened more. However, in contrary to growing demand from sustainability scientists for drastic reduction in number of livestock, he believes that livestock need not to be reduced to cut off methane emission from Brazil. Productivity can be increased by providing appropriate food to the livestock and by ensuring timely mating. The objective should be feeding the population with more efficient product and not cutting of livestock. Thirty-four years after historical Rio conference in 1992, Brazil in going to host COP in 2026. Representatives of three nations, UNEP and WHO - all emphasized on positivity and collaborative actions with subsidizing cleaner and greener options. Good policy needs good funding. A recent study by MIT shows that Carbon tax is still a questionable process for a vast majority. Carbon Offset by Nature Based Solution, Climate Bonds, Conservation of peatlands can be a effective options but all needs clearer framework and understanding. Let us look forward to an intense part 3 session on moving the money for breathing fresh air in a less warmed planet on Marc 20, 2024. https://www.wedonthavetime.org/events/climateandcleanair

In this UN world wildlife day in 03.03.2024 I would like to share my ideas and thoughts about our common lives with the amazing community of nature lovers. When I say “our common lives” I mean both: humans and non-humans. Our human existence, even after amazing technological advancements of mankind is only a part of an endless continuum of all living being. All of us together co-create this beautiful web of life and all of us together are facing existential crisis for multiple reasons. Climate change, environmental pollution and loss of biodiversity -these triple planetary crises are threatening our daily existence. If we want to make meaningful changes in our lives and our ways to survival, if we want to protect our happiness in this planet earth then we shall have to overcome the challenges, which are posed by triple planetary crisis. We humans are the root cause of most of these problems and we humans shall have to find the solutions. In order to solve these problems, we have to love our surroundings . In order to love our surroundings, we must observe our surroundings. Just by sheer watching, we can find out so much drama, twists and turns in the lives of the non-humans which are far more exciting than the daily amusement offered by the soap operas add movies. Observing non-human intelligence, of insects or of birds or of mammals or of trees are equally exciting and enriching. Once one starts watching the non-humans closely than one start understanding their fears, daily struggles, comfort zones and it became easier to connect with their existence. It becomes much easier to raise voice for them and to take timely action. Staying connected with the world of non-humans are important. Practicing empathy consciously and unconsciously are also important without thinking how others have treated us or are treating us. We are part integral part of this intricate web of lives. Our existence is still immensely dependent on the activities of these co-habitants of earth. Digital technologies are expanding our reach and are easing our access to the nooks and corners. With the help of digital amour, we shall have to stay connected with nature and its children because the elixir of human lives are still hidden deep inside natural treasures. https://www.wildlifeday.org/en

The name of the Houdini brings back memories of popular magic shows and the legendary magician Harry Houdini. A few of the famous magic of Houdini were to escape from bondages of hand calf or from threats of being buried alive in live shows. The spectators loved and cherished the way everything was performed in front of their eyes. Surprising the spectators were the key to success for the magician. Rapid glancing of videos uploaded in link of Houdini Sportswear with exciting, embedded messages bring back similar elements of surprises. 1. Fierce battles over IPR (International Patent Rights) among different parties are common in todays ' world. In this world, this company is supporting introduction of open-source environment for their product category. 2. In this era of increasing sales targets, this company is boasting of making durable products. Longer shelf life of apparels is surely a block in making room for new clothes by consumers and consequently for hitting higher and higher sales target by wearable selling company. 3. In this time of " being first" and "enjoying fresh -est products", this enterprise is trying to promote circularity, which may harm the good will of their own products. 4. This enterprise is also advocating for the ecocide law ( Note: The news about ecocide law actually glimmered the curiosity of current author of this post about this company. There are also five other companies who are advocating for same cause, but language became barrier in watching works of SPP. Rest shall be watched soon) . 5. And lastly, they are doing good business. Escaping from well tested patterns of wearable business demand passion, courage, creativity and innovation. Producing apparels and advocating law for ecocide can lead to conflict of tasks for a textile unit. By embracing these challenging tasks, this company is showing paths for successful sustainable business, with or without any magic. Watching full videos were difficult because of serious buffering issues, which needs to be sorted out.) https://app.wedonthavetime.org/profile/houdini_sportswear

GlobalNature-based solutions are seriously being considered in ocean front. However Oceans donot thrive in isolation. Hydrosphere is deeply inter connected. Use of naturebased solutions in rivers and ponds can really make a change. Efforts in GGA, can be game changer with inclusion of Nature Based Solutions. West Bengal, India is witness of successful nutrient recovery through sewagefed fisheries and garbage fed agriculture for about a century now. East Kolkata Wetland a Ramsar site is an ideal example of circular economy, nature based solutions and source of cheaper fish and vegetables supply in local markets. Mangroves of Sundarban, an unique biosphere are acting as barriers. All such applications should be multiplied at rivets and wetlands for taking forward GHG emission reduction and adaptation at level of common citizens, while waiting for meaningful consensus of leaders at global level to combat climate change.

Positive takeway in seafront if Nature Based Solutions are seriously upsaceled and implemented Ocean-atmosphere forcing functions govern global climate. Deep ocean acts as one of the largest carbon reserves. Disturbances in ocean environment are, therefore, causing perturbation in the stability of climate. But with increase in GHG content in the atmosphere, the dynamics of exchange of CO2 from air to ocean water is also changing. Ocean scientists are sending serious alerts for quite a long time now. It is good to see that the world leaders, policy makers and other key actors have started to respond to this alarm call. Adaption of Nature Based Solutions for oceans and GHG reduction strategy by IMO (International Maritime Organization) are emerging as major options for transformation towards a sustainable future. Age-old policies on the ocean are now being reviewed for marine biodiversity conservation, adaptation & mitigation strategies, environment restoration, economic development and coastal protection. The Twine notion of “30x30” is a harbinger of hope and positivity amidst the despair of unfulfilled ambitions of setting ideal mitigation targets. Global target has been set to effectively conserve and manage at least 30 percent of the world’s terrestrial and inland water areas, and of marine and coastal areas by 2030”. UNDP has adopted a historic agreement for achieving this 30x30 target. Target of IMO for 30x30 reduction IMO (International Maritime Organization) has also set a target of reducing the GHG emission by 30% of 2008’s level by 2050. Resourceful UN:CC classroom recently provided a nice overview on this subject. International shipping carries 90% of global trade. The volume of trade has sharply increased in the past fifty years. In 1970, the loaded volume of global scale seaborne trade was 2605 million tonnes but in 2019 the same has become 11076 million tonnes. Over 100000 ships are involved in international shipping. 99% of large trading ships still use fossil fuels. GHG emission has increased by 20% in the last decade. Currently, global shipping emissions contribute to around 3% of total global GHG emissions. But there are predictions that this will grow to more than 8% by 2050. The maritime transport is also responsible for discharge of waste oil and noxious liquid, harmful substances, waste from packaging material, garbage waste, water discharges, air pollution, GHG emissions and noise pollution. The steps to be taken for reaching the reduction target by IMO (MEPC 80-17-Add.1 - Report Of The Marine Environment Protection Committee on Its Eightieth Session (Secretariat) ( https://imo.org ) shall include improvement of energy efficiency of ships shall be improved as design requirement of ships. New ships shall also be strengthened to reduce the carbon intensity. Intermediate check points have also been finalized for monitoring the progress of GHG emission reduction targets: · to reduce the total annual GHG emission from international shipping by at least 20% striving for 30% by 2030 compared to 2008 and · to reduce the total annual GHG emissions from international shipping by at least 70% striving for 80% by 2040 compared to 2008. The positive outlook of IMO is laudable and needs to be more shared for encouraging other sectors to take up similar initiatives. Further, the GHG emission approaches adopted at marine sea should also be replicated for riverine maritime transport. GHG reduction in riverine maritime transport can help states and regions to contribute in meeting voluntary GHG mitigation targets. However, marine transportation is one of the most cost effective and environmentally acceptable mode of transport and there is enough room for improvement. More than 1.8 million seafarers mainly from developing countries are major working force. The world trade continues to grow faster now, highly trained and qualified seafarers and other professionals will be needed soon. Making human resources ready for sustainable energy efficient operations as a livelihood option is another possible scope in this sector. Reduction of CO2 by nature-based solutions in Ocean environment Reduction of emission from international shipping is a new tool in ocean front but the Ocean itself is contributing in large scale GHG reduction through the mangroves, sea grasses, seabeds, seafloor ocean sediments. Each component are capturing carbon from time immemorial and thus are silently contributing in removal of CO2 from the atmosphere at global scale. UNCC has just conducted two side events (…) on Ocean. Focused attention is now being given to quantify such carbon captures at sea and deep sea. NOAA has started a blue carbon inventory project with case study locations as Ghana and Indonesia. A current estimate suggests that 9 million MT CO2, which is equivalent to combustion of three and half billion gallon gasoline by cars, is being removed by Seas. Plastic pollution is impacting ocean and marine lives. Academic institutions, NGOs, Philanthropic organizations, citizens are joining hands to stop this plastic menace. Fishing industries are now using remote sensing and electronic based systems for better productiveness. Marine protected areas and climate change - resource | IUCN reports that only 6.35% of the area of ocean is declared as Marine Protected Areas. Only 1.89% are truly not take MPAs. Experts and panelists emphasized strengthening the data portal on Ocean and climate and to enable scientific data-based decision making. Components of nature-based solutions are classified as provisional services, regulation services, supporting services and cultural services. Under provisional services the timber flute and charcoal production are considered, under regulating services flood, storm and erosion control, prevention of saltwater intrusion carbon sequestration are considered. Global mangrove-coastal protection are valued as US $ 69 billion as by 2009 estimate. Carbon sequestration using carbon credit and voluntary carbon market are other options to be considered. In regulatory services, breeding of spawning, Cultural services as tourism education needs to be considered. Additional new options to be considered under deep sea ecosystem goods and services. The provision services will include carbon capture and storage, fishing, shellfish, oil and gas and minerals, chemical compounds for industries and waste disposal site. Supporting services shall include nutrient cycling, water cycling, habitat resilience, primary productivity, regulating services can include guess and climate regulations water, remediation and ecological, cultural services will enclose education and knowledge of the indigenous people, fisheries genetic resources, deep seabed mining, spiritual and cultural programs oil and gas exploration. It seems at least in the oceanic front few assertive actions are being taken.

The commitment to upscale and implement Nature-Based Solutions for oceans, as seen in global initiatives and the target set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), signifies a positive shift in addressing climate challenges. The "30x30" approach for marine biodiversity conservation and the IMO's target of reducing GHG emissions demonstrate a collective effort towards sustainability. While marine transportation faces challenges, such as plastic pollution, the ocean itself contributes significantly to GHG reduction through mangroves, sea grasses, and seabeds. Recognizing the multi-faceted contributions of nature-based solutions in ocean environments is a crucial step toward a more sustainable future.

In the opening remark, Isabel Garken has reminded all of us about treasures of mother earth, which has been passed down to present generation with ancestral love and legacy. It is the duty of current generation to conserve nature and biodiversity for passing the same to generations next with same love and care as we received from our ancestors. https://gender.cgiar.org/events/cop-28-official-side-event-tackling-gender-inequality-effective-climate-action-food-systems Tackling twine problem of gender inequality and climate change is difficult but women leaders and men leaders are showing and sharing ways and means to face it upfront in the side events of COP28. Dr. Nicoline, Dr. Elizabeth, Dr. Polar Dr. Rajasree, Dr. Todd presented what is to be done at policy level, where is the gap, what is to be done at field level for different agricultural products like potato and sweet potato what is being done in India by village level women communities like seed and biodiversity protection that needs immediate upscaling, what is being done at East Africa for livestock management etc. Plantings zero tillage potato in paddy fields which can provide relief to women farmers from daily toil, use of digital technologies and weather warnings that empowered the ladies in decision making are silver lightnings in the cloud, but still it is not a rosy picture in entirety. One USAID report suggests that only 2% of 632 projects are addressing gender inequality. It may be said that although the climate challenges of agriculture are now being addressed slowly, but it's twine of reducing plight of women farmers are still very much neglected. Realizing actions are also being steamed from real life miseries, and lessons learned from it. Construction of grain storage structures in Africa is one excellent example of subscribe. The girl in golden yellow attire from Gujarat explains the steps taken by them in the field for sustainable agriculture successfully in native language, and interpreter translates her actions to the larger community with known terminologies like precision agriculture. Realising science into field and returning the feedback to policymakers and scientists for improvement in bothway communicable language is need of the day. Use of digital technology is bridging this gap, but still, there are miles to go before worldwide honeybees are rejuvenated enough to ensure enough pollination. Women leaders working in agriculture along with the male counterparts are trying to making the difference. But the difference in the investment for betterment of girls and women in rural area and for in general indicates stark gender inequality. Raising the right issue is the first step for resolving problems. This has been nicely demonstrated with witty moderation in this side event

Oatly is a Swedish food company, which is established in 1990 using research findings from Lund University. Lund University is known and revered for leadership in critical thinking for environment and climate change. Oatly is producing and promoting plant-based foods/milk. Every company is expected to promote and market their products. However, this video calls for action where the appeal transcends beyond the typical product launching or promoting messages. It is essential to believe in something before advocating or promoting the same to the world. The action for bringing behavioral change for sake of combating climate change begins by wining one's own mind. Opting for plant-based diets/milks are being recommended by the scientists, who are working in field of climate change and sustainability quite a long time now. Plant based diets are being advocated as non-CO2 GHG production and natural resource consumption (embedded water, grazing land etc) are much higher by animal-based food production Choosing changes beyond comfort zone is not easy. The battle against climate change is to be fought with hope, positivity and resilience. But that does not mean we have to live in state of climate denial. IPCC special report on cryosphere earlier cautioned about the devastating impacts of temperature rise of more than 1.5 degree centigrade. IPCC 6th report also stated the same. The latest report by 60 scientists, who are working in this field are more emphatically cautioning the world about the temperature rise f more than 2 degree Centigrade in its recent report on "State of the Cryosphere Report 2023". Antartica, the least trodden continent of the world, which provides a buttress to sea level rise has lost maximum ice in this July, it is 2.77 million square meter3 ice of ice -we may say ice area of size of Argentina was missing in Antarctica in July 2023. 1911, Amundsen with his four men team reached South Pole for the first time and in his memory the western side of Antarctica, today we see "Amundsen Sea". This report shows that rate of melting is one of the highest, in this Amundsen sea side with about 9-10 m of ice per year. This report apprehends that the threshold of WAIS (West Antarctica Ice Sheet) collapse may already have passed around 0.8 degree centigrade rise above prehistorical time. Greenland has 3000 m thick ice in many areas but now rainfall has increased by 33% and this deluge is causing draining of ice from Greenland. Swiss Alps lost 10% of ice in only last two years. Latest modelling suggest even Himalaya can loose 50% of its ice. All these melting of ice and glaciers are resulting in to rise of sea level, floods and inundation. However, this report is also trying to find out the ways to deter and mitigate devastation. Turning down the temperature rise below 1.5 degree Centigrade is key to success. It states that "Over the past several decades, the Tibetan Plateau has warmed two times faster than the global average, increasing the vulnerability of its permafrost to thawing, sinking, and collapse. Limiting warming below 1.5°C instead of 2°C could reduce the costs of infrastructure damage from permafrost thaw in the Tibetan Plateau by $1.32 billion before the end of the century." Expediting actions for GHG mitigation shall be beneficial for the inhabitants and for the global economy. The report states: "A key message for policy makers and coastal communities is that once ice sheet melt accelerates due to higher temperatures, it cannot be stopped or reversed for many thousands of years, even once temperatures stabilize or even decrease with so-called net-zero emissions and/ or carbon dioxide removal (CDR). Ice core and sea level records clearly show that it takes tens of thousands of years to grow an ice sheet, but two orders of magnitude less (100x less) time to shrink one. Sea level lowering from these new highs will not occur until temperatures go well below pre-industrial, initiating a slow ice sheet re-growth.23 Overshooting the Paris Agreement goals would therefore cause essentially permanent loss and damage to the Earth’s ice sheets, with widespread impacts that are not reversible on human time scales.” It is a global challenge to improve the NDCs to meet the dire need of the day i.e. restricting the temperature rise by adopting no carbon / low carbon pathways, by deep decarbonatization. Hope and positivity are to be channelized for achieving the level of improvements in NDCs that resist the permanent loss and damages to Earth's ice sheet in reality. The findings of these report unambiguously lead to the conclusion: "Two degree is too high" . There is no merit is negotiating with melting point of Ice. Only EAS (East Antartica Shield) contributed 40 to 80 m rise in SLR in last interglacial period (1,30,000-1,15,000 years ago). Recent ocean sediment study revealed it. In other words, lessons are well written in the ocean sediments and ocean floor. Ocean scientists are deciphering. Rest of the world is required to learn these lessons and is required to take a call. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QOqYHI0ezrmMCUrmCDV03rF-1aIYE6VB/view

Disposal of textile waste is a problem for municipalities. Every year huge amount of wasted textiles are sent to the dumping grounds. Extraction of Circulose and production of new linen - as shown in this venture shall turn waste garments into raw materials for linen productions. If the textile industries adapt this process and take back waste garments for new production then amount of waste textiles, which were going to the disposal site shall be reduced drastically. Reducing the land area requirement for garbage dumping is a need for municipalities across the world. This process can show way forward for generation of reduced municipal solid waste, where discarded textile is a major share. Similar processing is already happening in waste paper based paper mills and the similarities between two cases kindle hope. However, it is to be kept in mind that at present this process is limited for Jeans and are being used for linen production i.e. not all garments can be recycled through this process. The second challenge is to address the ripple effects in cotton-based agriculture and supply chain. A report by FAO ( https://www.fao.org/3/cb4589en/cb4589en.pdf )suggests that in 2018, 110 million tonnes of fibres were produced. Out of 110 million tonnes of fibre 32 million tonnes were natural fibre. Since 1950, the land area requirement fluctuated between 28 million ha to 38 million ha, with an average of 33 million ha. In 2019 world market for yarn and fabric is estimated to be 850 billion USD and world production of cotton is valued at USD 46 billion. Need for policies for smooth transition of natural cotton to alternate crops production shall be imminent at government level, if this venture is scaled up correctly. However, this attempt to reduce global municipal solid waste generation, (which is already annually 2.01 tonne annually in 2023 and which is projected to increase with population count reaching from 7 billion to 9 billion 2050), is not to be deterred for impending challenges. Efficient use of natural resources and yield shall help all in the long run. Innovative attempt to improve land use effciency is to be greeted with climate love.

The YouTube video on Candela looks very promising. This ferry is achieving energy efficiency and is expected not to pollute water like it's conventional counterparts. The short video indicates that it is designed by beautiful marriage of sensor based latest technologies and ageold hard core hydrodynamic engineering. Wave equations can lead to such beautiful solutions. The bumpy ride in conventional speed boat and ferry at times turns a joyride into a painfully journey for many passengers, particularly for those citizens, who are suffering from back pain and stiffness problems. It seems Candela can be a solution for water pollution, GHG emission and health hazards -all at the same time. it is not clear from video whether it is an e ferry or it is fossil fuel based ferry with 95% better energy efficiency. Ensuring adequate buoyancy for a larger vessel and structural safety could be dream challenge of hydrodynamic. However, appropriate scaling up of technology used by Candela may lead to upscaling a change in mode of journey in waterways of the world. https://r.sib.wedonthavetime.org/mk/mr/sh/7nVTPdZCTJDXPBafVaXy2eVitdX95EH/R92vBowQAx4K

Growing momentum to push recycling and re-furbishing as part of development and growth is very encouraging. However, dis-assembly of a product or commodity is a difficult and messy process. We hardly get back the materials as it was before the assembly. As a result, the quality of the products manufactured in recycling industry is frequently not accepted for the same purpose for which materials were used for the first time. Surface treatments, blending, synthesis of chemicals are processes, where post-production disintegration of materials look almost impossible at present. Most successful recycling industrial applications like pavers from construction and demolition dust, secondary metallurgy, even recycled plastics have those subtle cues. But the word impossible always encouraged human intelligence to make it possible. Ideas take decades to develop and to come up as an option for implementation in reality. The history of technology transitions has ample proofs. There is no problem in demanding for designing the dis-assembly of disintegration line ready because it shall take time to realize for genuine technical barriers. If the designing disintegration processes are made integral part of the designing a production process, then recycling shall become far more efficient than today. Again, it cannot and shall not happen overnight. But that does not stop us to start asking for it and believing that it shall materialize as we are intelligent species, and we are ready to share are love with all other habitats of this earth. Aren't we?
