PARTNER UPDATE. Art, sustainability, function. These three words describe the work of Llobet Collaboratorium, one of We Don’t Have Time’s newest partners. Based in picturesque Jämtland, a region on the western border of Sweden, Llobet Collaboratorium is a creation born of husband and wife team Oliver Llobet and Anna Rydberg. Their showroom in the town of Östersund features Oliver’s artworks -- one-of-a-kind tables, lamps, and other functional designs reformed of machinery and tools of rural heritage. Oliver Llobet and Anna Rydberg, founders of Llobet Collaboratorium “I recycle material that I have found, like old farm machines, old forestry machines, junk I found in the forest or out in nature,” says Oliver. “I take it home, I clean it out, and I use it for my functional pieces. For me, one of the motivations when I create is to create something with a function. And always I have a history with what I’m creating from. Every piece has a story, and I’m always thinking of that when I create.” Anna, with her background in business management and current studies in environmental science, describes, “Llobet Collaboratorium is a platform where Oliver and I can work together. It’s an exhibition of his work and a platform for our projects that focus on design, heritage, and a sustainable future.” “We try in every project we do to have an action,” says Oliver. “We want something to happen every time -- for each project to become something that makes a better future.” “For example,” says Anna, “right now we are working on a project with other people here in Jämtland in which we will place art along a pilgrim path. We’re promoting the biodiversity of that place. It sort of takes the pilgrim path to a new level -- a spiritual journey that also reflects on society, nature, and climate change.” Oliver continues, “It shows the impact of humans on the territory and the importance of preserving the territory.” Work of Oliver Llobet's, a table created from pieces of an old plow and planks from an old barn floor. Starting this summer, the 250-kilometer pilgrim trail, called Jämt-Norgevägen, will feature art installations created of local heritage materials by Oliver and other regional artists. Remnants from those materials will be melted down to create biodiversity habitats like insect homes along the trail, as well. Speaking of their new partnership with We Don’t Have Time, Anna says, “It’s exciting to be part of something that can make a big change. In other social media, the climate change conversation can get lost, but here it’s the main focus. Here we can have a very interesting dialogue right away. It’s very direct, and that I really appreciate.” “We have a work method -- including a whole circular economy goal -- we want to share with others through our Climate Dialogue page,” says Anna. “And we want to improve how we work, so the communication with others who are working toward sustainability is our biggest interest.” About Llobet Collaboratorium Llobet Collaboratorium’s work is dedicated to creating a sustainable future through the combination of unique design, craftsmanship, and environmental science. It is a platform for projects with a focus on design, heritage, and a sustainable future, with a showroom and permanent exhibition at C:nen, Prästgatan 39 in Östersund, Sweden. In order to work for a sustainable future we need to look at the tripple botton line -People, Planet. Profit or in other words; - Social Sustainability - Environmental Sustainability - Economic Sustainability. A circular economy focuses on not only the circularity of the product through it's whole life time but also on redifing growth. We always strive to work with a circulair mindset but todays society is not built accordingly. We think that we should work togehter to form circular business models. Our main focus has until now been the use of materials and instead of using raw materials we use materials that has served another purpose before. Further on we believe that in order to go towards sustainable economy we need to supply objects of quaility that is made with craftmanship instead of things that last a life time or more instead of something that change with the latest trend. We want to get inspired to do even better! Please share with us what actions have you taken in order to change to a more circular economy?

I think the first thing I think about is, that when I really have to buy any item (clothes, furniture, electronics...) I ALWAYS look for a second-hand option. If not available I aim toward quality products with robust materials.

The world is full of materials often made with high quality and used for decades before being discarded for their first purpose. Often these materials are scrapped or even left in the nature. We strive to work circular in all our work and Oliver Llobet use these materials, often used argicultural machines or tools for his art. His conception of life, committed to ecology, cultural heritage and artistic practice led him to specialize in the creation of functional pieces, all kind of lamps, furniture and other sculptural objects. We believe that art plays a huge role in the act on climate change and through working with already used materials we want to show that these have a great value. The raw material is through the creative process transformed to authentic and unique pieces that move between art and functionality, between contemporary creation and the reuse of rural heritage. Every piece has a history and a story, we will tell you more of these stories in future posts!
