OlsAros salt tolerant wheat germinates and grows well in saline soil and gives good yield. These properties can be adapted to different climate zones. By taking advantage of OlsAro ́s wheat, saline land that normally is fallow because of a dry season (e.g. in Bangladesh) could be utilized, adding one more crop season to the farmers. This is of economic advantage in the whole chain from farm to fork. In addition, it also re-utilize land in the drive for more sustainable agriculture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwBSIWe3R7E https://olsaro.com/

Interesting. The Northern Rivers region, including areas around Lismore in New South Wales, typically receives higher rainfall compared to arid regions where dry farming is more common. However, there are still farms in the Lismore area that employ water-efficient farming techniques, though they may not strictly adhere to traditional dry farming methods. These farms often utilize practices such as drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, and mulching to conserve water and optimize crop production. The specific results of farming in the Lismore area would depend on factors like soil type, crop selection, and the implementation of sustainable farming practices.

Vidde is redefining winter mobility. Traditional fossil snowmobiles, known for their environmental impact and noise, inspired us to create an electric, sustainable solution. We're leading the transformation of terrain vehicles from emission-heavy to sustainable, valuing the environment and embracing a noise-free experience. Did we mention our partnership with the legendary design house Pininfarina, in shaping the future of snowmobiles? Amazing video to experience! https://viddemobility.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/VIDDE_night_1920x1080_V2.mp4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BqpzVZm1I5Q https://viddemobility.com/

So, Vidde's rolling out the red carpet for the world's first sustainable electric snowmobile, and wowsers, is it turning heads. They've got Pininfarina onboard for some serious design clout, but can they really carve through the noise and pollution of traditional snowmobiles? While their promise of zero emissions and a whisper-quiet ride sounds like music to eco-warriors' ears, let's not forget the real test lies in their ability to deliver on those claims. With pre-orders stacking up and milestones ticked off, Vidde's founders, Christian Lystrup and Yalda Mirbaz, are certainly painting a picture of ambition and innovation. But can they truly transform the snowy landscape of terrain vehicles while keeping their carbon footprint in check? It's a chilly challenge, but Vidde's riding into the future with their eyes set on sustainability.

Imagine a material that can be used like plastic. Works like plastic. Looks like plastic. But that is beyond plastic. Does not leave any microplastics. One that decomposes and results in 80% less CO2 emissions. We have developed and make that material. It’s called Biodolomer and it can change your business. So what is Gaia and Biodolomer? GAIA Biomaterials manufacture Biodolomer. A material that has most of the qualities of plastic – but not the disadvantages. You can use it for bags, jars, golf pegs, fishing nets, bottles, food trays, coffee cups – you name it. Just like plastic. But unlike plastic, Biodolomer has a limited life span. And after a while (we can set that time in the manufacturing process) it decomposes. Just as if it was a carrot or a leaf. With plant pots of Biodolomer. You don't have to remove them when you plant. They just disappear. Fishing nets from Biodolomer never become ghost nets. Biodolomer products will never create garbage islands in the oceans. That sounds too good to be true – right? It does – doesn’t it? And it gets even better. Since one of the main ingredients in Biodolomer is limestone, a decomposed bag or cup out of Biodolomer actually improves the quality of the soil. Biodolomer comes in granules. Just like plastic. And those granules can be used in the same processes as other plastics. But the products that come out of those processes are part of the solution, not the problem. https://www.gaiabiomaterials.com/

My sergeant major concern is, from a certain point old hardware isn’t capable of functioning with new developments in software. No one is asking, yet my suggestion would be the option to watch your outdated hardware be destroyed for recyclable purposes only, as you get a new device equivalent or possibly better than what you had, for a major bargain deal with detailed support giving you good insight toward your future options. We all know materials are becoming scarce or not economically viable in many cases, so perhaps this is also part of the reason support just ends. There are many cases where a certain type of system doesn’t experience the necessity for updated security as much. Therefore there should be channels in play that mitigate for consensus on the issue. On the other hand, groups of cyber terrorism are gaining in the accumulation of data with developmental A.I. causing greater concerns in the near future. What safety is and should be in the cyber world should become more transparent and accessible to all, creating a parallel support base that is governmentally integrated and protected by humanitarian right. The only issue I have with that is: whom do you trust? The problem is we have allowed ourselves to become victims by embracing technology from the get go without truly contemplating the long term ramifications, just like numerous social media platforms constructed to ultimately turn the user into a product. All the negative findings are put to bed until more than a few people are dead, demanding a societal restructuring. The movement from warfare industrial diplomacy to the consumer market is a sickening one, still where would you be without your GPS? It’s either change the way we live or adapt to what’s going on. My faith in the matter has become more cynical during this past decade, which is odd actually seeing so many new developments also such as this one we’re all on. I’m for new thought-out traditions, leading a way to unification and making better decisions. Life shouldn’t be a prison, yet your screen has you all day sitting right in front of it, in it, isn’t it? The time for circumventing devision is now. If you don’t know, find out, if you can’t, just talk about, if you care, say so, if you feel it’s wrong, just say no. The only order there is, is the one you believe in. It is time for a new Matrix. You reading this: nothing stays the same, but if you’re willing to make the change, we’ll all be coming around again… sing with me.

Oh no! It turns out AP7 is not the only state-run Swedish pension fund investing in oil companies that are expanding their oil production. The Swedish business newspaper Dagens Industri has just revealed that the Fourth Swedish National Pension Fund, AP4, is investing heavily in the French oil giant @TotalEnergies. Niklas Ekvall, CEO of AP4, says in an interview with Swedish TV4, that ”TotalEnergies on an overall basis, is ambitiously investing in fossil free energy production.” Well, sorry Niklas, but that’s not the point. The point is that Total Energies’ CEO Patrick Pouyanné has openly stated, time and again, that his company will continue to drill for new oil. More so, he has gone so far as to warn that governments are misselling the energy transition, pretending that fossil energy is cheaper than renewables. (Spoiler: It is not. Not even with all the trillion dollars of fossil fuel subsidies included.) “We think that fundamentally this energy transition will mean a higher price of energy,” Patrick Pouyanné said in a wide-ranging interview, in which he defended his group’s two-pronged strategy to invest in renewable power, while still pursuing new oil and gas projects , including in untapped countries such as Namibia. Did you hear that, Niklas Ekwall? TotalEnergies will DRILL FOR MORE OIL! This means you should stay away from this company, not invest in it. Just a few months ago, at COP28 in Dubai, the Swedish government signed the COP28 agreement stating that we need to transition away from fossil fuels and reduce emissions by 43% by 2030. "Transitioning away" means shrinking. Not expanding. This means that YOU CANNOT INVEST IN NEW OIL. How can this be so goddamn hard to understand? ⚠️ Learn more: https://www.tv4.se/artikel/4f9ekV1pROHY5jZtYGnw2F/granskning-ap-fonder-investerar-miljarder-i-utoekning-av https://www.ft.com/content/5a76f345-5e28-4f72-9246-6569c4ffe3d9

Cities around the world face a daunting challenge in the era of climate change: Supercharged rainstorms are turning streets into rivers, flooding subway systems och inundating residential areas, often with deadly consequences. The usual way to manager water is more drainage pipes, building flood walls and channeling rivers between concrete embankments. KongJian Yu, a landscape architect and professor at Peking University has a different philosophy: “ let the water in! You can’t fight water, you have to adapt it” Mr. Yu calls this concept”Sponge City”, “ it’s like doing tai chi (a Chinese martial art) with water”. Mr. Yu said growing up in a village in Zhejiang Province toward the end of Cultural Revolution showed him how earlier generations in rural China had “ made friends with water”. Framers in his region build terraces, berms and ponds to direct and store excess water during the rainy season. Due to climate change, the warm air are holding more moisture, resulting in heavier rainstorms. Currently 65% of urban areas in china experience som degree of flooding each year. And the conventional drainage infrastructure haven’t solved the problem for 200 years. The sponge city program was officially inaugurated by President Xi in 2015 with pilot projects in 16 Chinese cities and has since expanded to more than 640 sites in 250 municipalities, and the goal is to absorb 70% of rain that falls on those cities by 2030. From Mr. Yu’s company website👇, Turenscape, one of the largest landscape architecture firms, you can see all the sponge city projects they have sone. Houtan park, a mile long strip of greenery along the Huangpu river in Shanghai that Mr. Yu designed on a former industrial site. Terraces planted with bamboo and native forbs and grasses are bisected by wooden walkways that zigzag between ponds and constructed wetlands. The wetlands filter water, slow river’s flow and provide habitat for the waterfowl and spawning fish. The sponge concept is not unique to china. One of Mr. Yu’s project in Bangkok: Benjakitti Forest Park was opened 2022. John Beardsley, the curator of the Oberlander International Landscape Architecture prize, which was awarded to Mr. Yu last year, saying that Mr. Yu’s impact on policy in China has been astonishing. “ KongJian has managed to be very critical of the government’s environmental policies while still maintaining his practice and his academic appointments.” Sponge city is not a total solution, but it makes a significant impact on reducing the damage of climate change and carbon neutrality. https://www.turenscape.com/en/home/index.html https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/28/climate/sponge-cities-kongjian-yu.html

H&M Group and Vargas Holding launch Syre, a new company to scale recycled polyester from textile-to-textile Syre, which was founded by the H&M group together with Vargas Holding, and which has now brought in TPG Rise Climate as an investor, aims to quickly scale up the recycling of polyester from textile waste and contribute to a more sustainable textile industry. I also strongly agree with the following statement; “August 24 - There’s probably enough clothing on the planet that there’s no need to spin another new fibre. In the United States and European Union almost 22 million tonnes of textiles are thrown out every year. The waste is found everywhere from the ocean to the Atacama Desert.” — https://www.reuters.com/sustainability/climate-energy/can-fashion-industry-move-recycled-bottles-reused-threads-2023-08-30/ When I asked ChatGPT 3.5 about the subject, it replied: “While recycled polyester clothing, often made from recycled PET bottles, offers a sustainable alternative to traditional polyester, there are still some concerns to consider: 1. **Microplastic Pollution:** When recycled polyester clothing is washed, it sheds microplastics into the water, which can eventually make their way into the environment and food chain, posing risks to aquatic life and potentially human health. 2. **Chemical Usage:** The process of recycling PET bottles into polyester fabric often involves the use of chemicals and energy-intensive processes, which can have environmental impacts if not properly managed. 3. **Durability and Quality:** Some argue that recycled polyester garments may not be as durable or high-quality as those made from virgin polyester, potentially leading to shorter lifespans and increased waste if they wear out more quickly. 4. **Market Saturation:** With the growing popularity of recycled polyester clothing, there is a concern that the market may become saturated, leading to increased competition and potentially lower prices that could undermine the economic viability of recycling programs. 5. **End-of-Life Management:** While recycled polyester clothing is a step towards circularity, ensuring proper end-of-life management through recycling or composting is crucial to maximize its sustainability benefits and minimize waste. Despite these concerns, recycled polyester clothing still offers significant environmental benefits compared to conventional polyester, including reducing the demand for virgin materials and diverting waste from landfills. Additionally, ongoing research and innovation in materials science and recycling technologies aim to address some of these challenges and further improve the sustainability of recycled polyester clothing.”

A unique right that not everyone likes Sweden is the only country in the world where it is a law that all cattle over 6 months (except bulls) must be given the opportunity to graze outdoors in the summer. It is something that most of us are proud of. But some heavy players think that the grazing requirement is unfair because they think it makes it more expensive to raise animals in Sweden than in other EU countries. The National Federation of Farmers, LRF is one of the players who want to remove the grazing requirement, citing that the farmer should be able to decide for himself over his animals. These demands have also been picked up by politicians. Rural Affairs Minister Peter Kullgren (KD), with the support of the rest of the government party and SD, has appointed an investigation into "strengthened competitiveness for food producers and strong animal protection". Peter Kullgren's party has on several occasions motioned in the Riksdag to remove the grazing requirement from the law. Sproud's plant-based dairy products are today available in 30 countries in Europe, the USA, Canada and Asia and are sold online, in grocery stores and in cafes, hotels and restaurants. Sproud has headquarters in Malmö and 15 employees globally. DETAILS Plant-based milk alternative, unsweetened. Vegan. Store cool and dry. Store in the refrigerator after opening, and consume within 7 days. Sproud Unsweetened is a vegan milk alternative without sugar. The drink is based on pea protein, and contains no gluten. Sproud is neutral in taste and white in appearance and can be used as an alternative to milk. Can also be used in hot drinks. Oats, almonds, soy and now pea – the alternatives to milk have become more and more numerous in recent years. But when Nicklas Jungberg launched Sproud three years ago, there was a clear thought behind the choice of raw material. - The pea has a good and neutral taste which makes it suitable for both baking and in coffee. It also has a low climate footprint, requires relatively little water and in cultivation, a lot of nutrients are returned to the soil, explains Nicklas Jungberg. He also says that the pea drinks have twice the protein content of oat drinks and contain half as much sugar. Visiting address NORDENSKIÖLDSGATAN 11 21119 Malmö Skåne län +46735290875

Water-soluble potassium sulfate Cinis Fertilizer produces the world's most environmentally friendly mineral fertilizer, a water-soluble potassium sulfate (Sulphate of Potash, SOP), by recycling residual products from the pulp industry and the electric car battery industry in an innovative way. The potassium sulfate is produced in a circular way using fossil-free electricity. The production has no dangerous by-products. This results in a potassium sulphate that not only improves the size and taste of the harvest, but also reduces your CO2 footprint. Sodium chloride (NaCl) The by-product of our production process is fossil-free and circular sodium chloride, that is, completely ordinary salt. The high quality of the salt and the sustainable production process make it an excellent choice regardless of the area of use. The salt can just as well be used in cooking as in chemical processes or to salt icy roads. https://www.cinis-fertilizer.com/what-we-do/product/

The climate impact from transport must be reduced by as much as 75% by 2030 – tougher than Sweden's world-leading 2030 target! Bergen will reach its climate goal with the help of fewer cars and reduced car ownership, and a transition to becoming a more compact and walkable city. The climate impact from the municipality's own vehicles must be reduced by 75 percent by 2030, when the own car fleet must also have been reduced by a fifth - despite the municipality's growth. At the same time, the use of private cars in the service must be halved. When the municipality took inventory of its vehicle fleet of 1,020 cars, they discovered that many are used extremely little; well over 90 percent of the time they sit unused and unwanted. Bergen replaced these cars with car sharing, which is used by over 50 municipal administrations, with a total of nearly 15,000 bookings and well over 500,000 kilometers driven. Since almost all shared cars are electric, the climate impact from the municipality's own cars is greatly reduced, while operating costs drop. But the biggest profit occurs when the municipality does not use the cars. They are then rented out to municipal residents, who thus have access to good, new electric cars especially in the evenings and weekends. It quickly became a success, with five percent of the municipality's residents as car pool members. Bergen now has three car pools with 700 cars - in addition to "neighbor cars" that are shared between neighbors, "friend cars" that friends own or lease together, as well as various types of car subscriptions. The city has reserved 221 parking spaces exclusively for car sharing and granted 180 special zone permits so that the car sharing cars can be picked up and left in residential areas where other cars are not allowed to park. This, along with some serious marketing, has put Bergen on the car sharing map; Copenhagen and Stockholm recently met Bergen to learn more. The climate benefit of carpools is greater than just that so many people now drive shared electric cars; Bergen's follow-up shows that those who are part of a car pool walk and cycle more than twice as much as the general population, which is reinforced by the municipality's walking and cycling strategy. Almost half of those who are part of the car pool have completely refrained from buying a car and 25 percent have liquidated their car ownership. It also becomes less crowded on Bergen's streets; Norwegian TÖI calculates that each carpool car replaces 10-15 private cars.

This is a very good idea, as long as everyone gets to where they want to go, and there are fewer cars on the road, lest carbon emitted.

From purchase to maintenance, we streamline bike ownership. Making everyday cycling accessible for all. Today 40% of bikes are standing unused due to minor problems like flat tires, which could be easily fixed by someone with the right knowledge. This is where MIOO comes in. When purchasing a bike online, it is automatically linked to an MIOO account where customers can book services, subscribe for insurance and mobile bike service, and join the MIOO community for support. We keep bikes rolling! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3jBMB7G5Ek https://mioo.cc/

Cycling creates less noise, and less air pollution, and results in fewer emissions that are warming the atmosphere. We can help to protect our green spaces by showing their importance to communities and to plants and wildlife

When you think of the pros of cycling, one wonders why it is not the norm, especially in cities. Biking would also support and create new business for the people to do these repairs and/or sell them. We are sleeping on this, and we have to adopt cycling as a mainstream means of getting around.

BREAKING: We've just crossed the critical 1.5°C global warming threshold for an entire year, as reported by the EU's climate service. Perhaps most alarming is the fact that ocean temperatures are also reaching record highs and continue to rise, causing significant concern among scientists who are still trying to comprehend the rapid pace of these changes. The media must bring this dire news to the forefront. With numerous pivotal elections this year, the leaders we choose are crucial in addressing this crisis. If people are uninformed, they won't vote accordingly. Is breaching the 1.5°C mark in 2023 a sign that the Paris Agreement's goals are now out of reach? Absolutely not. Despite rising political challenges and emissions in 2023, here are key points to bare in mind: - The 1.5°C target is considered a 30-year temperature average, not just a year or two. IPCC projections already included potential overshoots, even with deep emission cuts. El Niño may exacerbate conditions in 2023 and 2024, but the Paris Agreement's core goals remain intact. - We possess the technology and policy means to drastically cut GHG emissions across all sectors and address deforestation equitably. What's missing is political will and funding. However, these measures alone won't solve the atmospheric CO2 legacy. Delaying emission reductions can't be offset by future carbon removal efforts due to physical, social, and economic limitations. - Science shows immediate emission reductions will quickly impact atmospheric concentrations and temperatures. Achieving net zero emissions will slow temperature rises and can stabilize them if reached promptly. - To revert to safer conditions and not just stabilize at dangerous CO2 levels (currently around 420 ppm), we need both deep emission cuts and significant carbon removal efforts, starting now. Natural solutions like reforestation will be crucial, but it's uncertain if they can lower CO2 to below 400 or 350 ppm. - Delaying deep emissions cuts and carbon removal increases the likelihood of needing less sustainable technological interventions to achieve the 1.5°C goal or lower. The solutions are within our grasp; we can overcome this challenge. However, time is not on our side. Join us at Wedonthavetime.org to take collective action. Our community reaches nearly 200 million people on social media every month. Let's make our voices heard and effect real change.

This is quite alarming and should be the best time to put the best foot forward to address global warming as it's a reality we can't evade

If the weather events that we have seen over the past few years only represent a temporary temperature over 1.5C, it's scary to think what an average temperature over 1.5C will do to the world. This can be a wake up call for policymakers and businesses worlddwide.

The time for Africa being Europe's dumping place for old cars is over! Ethiopia has announced a ban on non-electric car imports. This decision, driven by economic and environmental considerations shows the country's commitment to transitioning to electric vehicles (EVs) and reducing reliance on gasoline imports. Alemu Sime, from the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, highlighted the decision, emphasising Ethiopia's focus on electric mobility and reducing gasoline dependency due to limited foreign exchange resources. The government's efforts also include plans for EV charging infrastructure and tax exemptions for electric cars. While specifics about the ban's implementation are pending, Ethiopia's proactive stance sets a clear direction towards sustainable transportation for East Africa! https://cleantechnica.com/2024/02/07/ethiopia-banning-non-electric-car-imports/
