Toast Ale is a British brewing company that makes fighting food waste enjoyable! (if you like drinking beer). Did you know that one-third of the food produced in the world is wasted? And one of the most common items is bread. With 44% of all the bread produced in the UK being wasted, Toast Ale mission was clear, create a tasty beer selection while reducing this awfully high number. Toast Ale uses 30% less malted barley than other brewing companies by using stale bread to brew its different kinds of beer ranging from Lager, to IPA and Stout and it has saved 2,067,094 slices to date. That is 3 times the height of Mount Everest. The company both prevents food waste and using less barley means its climate footprint is lower with reduced demand for water and lower carbon emissions. On top of brewing their own, Toast Ale collaborates with breweries all over the world to help them use surplus bread and guide their transition to circular brewing and provides an open-source recipe for home brewers. The company also donates all distributable profits to charities working to solve the food system and has donated £48,498 to charity to date. Toast Ale is a social enterprise and is very transparent about its environmental impact. The company is working towards improving its packaging the largest share of its carbon footprint and is investing in regenerative agriculture on the way to net-zero. "Raise a toast, save the world. Cheers!" as their motto states! https://www.toastale.com/

It can feel overwhelming when you try as a small business to begin looking at the Carbon Neutral process. There are government sites, carbon calculators, B corporation accreditation’s but none that seem to have the human touch. When I was introduced to Greenleaf TDG it was a relief to find a person that could help create my Carbon Neutral plan. Firstly there was a zoom call but this could have also been done face to face. This covered what the The Healthy Life had already been achieved, what plans I had in place for the future and some fact finding. I had to provide some details of energy usage, what equipment I used and various other easily gathered data. A week later my report was ready and a further call explained my Carbon Neutral plan. Some easy quick wins and some longer term fixes. I would highly recommend this company to anyone like me who are too small to have the resources to do this myself or for larger companies who would like an audit and help with achieving International Standards. This was a cost effective and professionally run company and I am proud to have been awarded my Greenleaf Certificate for my work done on running a Sustainable High St Health and Zero Waste Lifestyle Store based in Devizes Wiltshire. Quote GoGreen22 if you’d like their help.
