If you are planning to read a book this summer, I urge you to read “On time and water” by Icelandic author and activist Andri Snaer Magnason. Magnason writes of the melting glaciers, the rising seas and acidity changes that haven't been seen for 50 million years. These are changes that will affect all life on earth. Taking a path to climate science through ancient myths about sacred cows, stories of ancestors and relatives and interviews with the Dalai Lama, Magnason allows himself to be both personal and scientific. The result is an absorbing mixture of travel, history, science and philosophy. This is one of those books you will bring with you, both psychical and deep within your mind. I also found myself getting inspired to start writing again. Thank you Andri! 🍀

While many places on our planet suffers from extreme temperatures close to 50 degrees celsius, TV4 (one if Swedens biggest news-channels) celebrate what a great summer we have in Sweden. The climate change is global but the disastrous effect is more obvious on some parts of the world. The fight against climate change also needs to be global. TV4 should take responsibility and report about temperature records as alarming instead of talking about the “nice” weather.

Quote of Sir David Attenborough: "A crime has been committed!" The legendary wildlife filmmaker David Attenborough tells 60 Minutes why urgent action on climate change is crucial and why we need to save nature in order to save ourselves. It's time to wake up, stop greed, Stops nationalist behaviour. We are all human beings and we all live on the same earth. It is not just one part of the earth that is falling by the wayside, but our whole planet. Why waste billions on researching planetary life, our planet is full of life. So we'd better invest it in protecting our uniquely wonderful home planet Earth! https://youtu.be/Li5Xi9mIvDg

The message is crystal clear, it now needs to be acted upon by the government's of the world, but also the people of the world. It is absolutely pointless demonstrating, supporting people like David and other Climate Activists if people are not prepared to change, they are at demonstrations and rallies but have made no effort to change their lives, still flying on holiday, buying the latest gadgets, eating fish, buying the latest fashion, eating fast food, drinking takeaway coffees, the list is endless all contributing to the Global crisis, do we really have a chance, not if we don't change to only consuming what we actually NEED not WANT. Sad times. :(

Zara is one of the biggest retailers of fast fashion in the world, how convenient to use a recycled and forest friendly bag for your “non” sustainable products. One step is better always better than non, but at least take a bigger step than this. What’s in the bag should be the main concern. What happens when the bag (as in this case) is thrown in the nature/forest? Is it still a forest-friendly bag? #joinlife #recycle

This is interesting. I used to love monopoly as a child. The feeling and imagination of being an adult - buying and selling properties. It gave me hope for the future. Little did I know the enormous challenges we would face. Well now it’s time to go green, in monopoly! Players build wooden greenhouses and invest in greening up their properties. The utilities are a wind farm and a solar field. Railroads are now bike paths. In this Monopoly game the package, gameboard, game guide, money, cards, storage bag, insert, and money tray are made from 100% recycled paper. I know it is only game and it can come of as greenwashing, but I really hope this game can start hopeful and visionary conversations and thoughts around the dinner table, instead of madness and broken relationships (classic monopoly). Hopefully this will be consider the classic monopoly. 🍀

Take part in the survey and give young people a voice in the negotiations on biodiversity! One million plant and animal species are at risk of extinction. Young people need to take a stand. The purpose of the survey is to demonstrate what’s important to young people in the Nordic Region and to put pressure on negotiators for ambitious new goals to protect biodiversity. The more young people aged 13 to 30 who take the time to respond to the survey in February, the stronger the demands we can make at the ongoing international negotiations and put to the Nordic governments. The survey has been developed by the Nordic Youth Biodiversity Network with the support of the Nordic Council, the Nordic Council of Ministers, and WWF Denmark. The survey takes just ten minutes of your time and can be found here: https://bit.ly/3cIKBkK

They said it violated their Community Guidelines for harmful or dangerous content…but haven’t given us any reason why they think so. In April last year, YouTube (a Google subsidiary) shut down a live broadcast of the world’s largest digital climate conference. We’re throwing a yellow flag. When information is removed from the public eye without reason, transparency, or response…isn’t that censorship? YouTube, Google: we’re asking for clarity. Will you provide it? Why did you pull the switch on a collaborative conference, called Earth Day Week, about reversing climate change? The We Don’t Have Time studio from Earth Day Week, April 20–25 2020 Facts of the shutdown Earth Day Week 2020 was a week-long, online conference for actions, ideas, and solutions to the climate crisis. Created by We Don’t Have Time in partnership with Earth Day Network, it was aired live on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We had over 2 million social media viewers throughout the week, with each day of the conference featuring some of the world’s leading climate change thinkers and doers. On Day 2 of the conference, April 21, 2020, the live YouTube broadcast of the conference was shut down without warning. The reason stated was: “Violation of YouTube’s policy on harmful or dangerous content.” At the time of the shutdown, one of the conference’s most prominent guests was speaking: Christiana Figueres, who was co-chair of the COP 21 in Paris in 2015 and one of the main architects behind the Paris Climate Agreement. Within minutes of the shutdown, we managed to start another YouTube livestream, picking up where we left off. That day’s conference broadcast was not further disrupted. We were also able to upload a recorded version of the full day’s conference later that same evening — including whatever portion of the broadcast had triggered the shutdown earlier that day. YouTube seems not to have noticed or minded that we uploaded that, but of course, the recorded version didn’t recover the live viewership numbers. The day’s momentum was lost. A screenshot of the message of the suggested violation as put forward by Google and YouTube They called it harmful or dangerous YouTube says we violated their policy on harmful or dangerous content, which lists the following prohibitions (along with a disclaimer that this is not a complete list): - Extremely dangerous challenges: Challenges that pose an imminent risk of physical injury. - Dangerous or threatening pranks: Pranks that lead victims to fear imminent serious physical danger, or that create serious emotional distress in minors. - Instructions to kill or harm: Showing viewers how to perform activities meant to kill or maim others. For example, giving instructions to build a bomb meant to injure or kill others. - Hard drug use or creation: Content that depicts abuse of or giving instructions on how to create hard drugs such as cocaine or opioids. Hard drugs are defined as drugs that can (mostly) lead to physical addiction. - Eating Disorders: Content that praises, glorifies, or encourages viewers to imitate anorexia or other eating disorders. Eating disorders are characterized by abnormal or disturbed eating habits which negatively affect a person’s health (including eating non-food items). - Violent Events: Promoting or glorifying violent tragedies, such as school shootings. - Instructional theft: Showing viewers how to steal money or tangible goods. - Hacking: Demonstrating how to use computers or information technology with the intent to steal credentials, compromise personal data or cause serious harm to others such as (but not limited to) hacking into social media accounts - Promoting dangerous remedies or cures: Content which claims that harmful substances or treatments can have health benefits. Neither Christiana Figueres’ discussion nor any content that had come earlier in that day’s (or any other day’s) broadcast was what we can possibly imagine to be “harmful or dangerous”. On the contrary, Earth Day Week was about collaboration and transparency to propagate solutions to the harmful *and* dangerous climate crisis upon us. YouTube’s enforcement (or…censorship?) policy YouTube’s Community Guidelines enforcement policy follows a “three strikes and you’re out” framework. A live stream removal comes with one strike against the YouTube channel hosting it. Strikes stay on the channel for 90 days, and each strike increasingly restricts the channel’s ability to upload content. If the channel receives three strikes, it is permanently removed from YouTube. Before the strikes, however, comes a warning. And that’s what We Don’t Have Time received, since it was our first time “violating” the Community Guidelines. The Community Guidelines also state that YouTube reserves the right to — “at its discretion” — prohibit a user from creating content. An appeal process is built into the Community Guidelines enforcement policy, so we have taken that route. For a month now we’ve been awaiting feedback from YouTube and have heard not a peep. What is your reasoning for the shutdown, YouTube? Where’s your transparency? We’re waiting to hear from you. Did Jeffrey Sachs hit too close to home? Not long before Christiana Figueres and Dr. Sweta Chakraborty’s dialogue on April 21, Professor Jeffrey Sachs delivered a passionate, compelling address to the Earth Day Week global audience that compared the Covid-19 crisis to the climate crisis. Twice named one of Time Magazine’s most influential world leaders and ranked by The Economist among the top three most influential living economists, Professor Sachs did not mince his words. Broadcasting from New York, exercising his country’s constitutional right to freedom of speech, he said, “I live in the country with the most arrogant politics, the United States, and the most narcissistic and arrogant leader…” as he spoke of how the U.S. has handled Covid-19. He criticized affluent countries’ approaches to both climate change and the corona pandemic. Of his own country’s leadership he said: “President Trump exemplifies the problem. He is a narcissist. He is a psychopath. He is unable to process scientific information, and he is uninterested in the truth.” — Jeffrey D. Sachs Was this criticism harmful? Was it dangerous? We would contend: absolutely not. Nor were any other words or images broadcast during Earth Day Week. Or maybe it was this..? Another possible reason for the shutdown might be the Honest Government Ads created and uploaded to YouTube (among other outlets) by The Juice Media. Four of these ads were featured once daily from April 20 to 24 during the Earth Day Week broadcasts — a choice made entirely by YouTube (or their algorithms). Screenshot from The Juice Media’s YouTube channel It’s plausible the ads may have upset people from the haters’ side of the fence, who may have clicked on YouTube’s flagging “report” feature. If there were enough of these flags, it could have led to YouTube’s decision to shut down the livestream. However, the problem with this explanation is that 350,000 users already subscribe to The Juice Media’s YouTube channel, and the “Honest Government” ads are all over YouTube already…without being censored. This should rule out that as a likely explanation for the Earth Day Week shutdown. A call upon Google’s Code of Conduct Google, here’s the final line of your Code of Conduct: “And remember… don’t be evil, and if you see something that you think isn’t right — speak up!” We think your shutdown of Earth Day Week wasn’t right. Please, Google — tell us your side of the story We may never get an explanation or reply from Google/YouTube. We may never learn the exact reasons for this seemingly arbitrary — possibly intentionally hostile — shutdown. Without their response, what we’re left with are a whole lot of questions. Why did YouTube pull the plug on the climate conference? What was it about Earth Day Week that YouTube and Google found harmful or dangerous? And to whom was it harmful or dangerous? Did they shut us down because of complaints from other viewers — and if so, who were they? Was this an attempt to silence solutions to climate change by trolls, Big Oil, or climate denialists? Or was it a mere mistake that cost us precious momentum? Whoever flipped the switch at YouTube must know the answer. But who was that? Who’s in charge of deciding which information is blocked from the public eye? Will the truth ever come to light in such a non-transparent monopoly as the platform that YouTube and Google control? The future may tell. Or not. In his final remarks for the same day, April 21, 2020, Nick Nuttall of Earth Day said: “It’s absurd isn’t it that Google would disconnect a program on climate change. The fact is the whole world has agreed that in fact we have to act on climate change. And yet some people still think it’s a political issue. This has to be beyond politics. The science is absolutely clear. It’s about survival and. You can’t play with this” — Nick Nuttall We can guarantee that if we get a reply from YouTube and Google, you’ll be among the first to know!

After watching several cocoa documentaries lately, I feel frustrated. Tired of everyday greenwashing in grocery stores and of denial. I wrote this text, unfortunately in Swedish. How will climate change affect our view and need for pleasure food as coffee and cocoa? Raw materials that many take for granted but which may not taste so good after all, when you are aware of the entire value chain. The picture says 100% sustainable chocolate, but no certification. A red flag?)

Transparency is critical to build trust. Claiming sustainability without backing it up sends a clear warning - What is the company Karl Fazer trying to hide?

Beautiful text! In order to see real change in this we need either full transparency and understanding of the situation of these workers that are so far away from us. Or we need the actual price of the items to be higher in order to increase the wages of those working with this. Either one are hard to achieve, but not impossible. I think we can do it, together!

The north eastern Brazilian state of Ceará is launching a project for employing 10 000 youths in its Programa Ambiental Juvenil Agente Estatal (AJA) or The State Environmental Youth Agent Program in English. The selected environmental agents will be tasked with assisting current environmental and social projects, creating their own projects and spreading knowledge regarding the environment over the next 2 years. It will be open for participation by young people between the ages of 15 and 29 from families that are enrolled in social welfare programs, helping underprivileged youths in the process. I think that the project has great potential to contribute not only to the up and coming generation of environmental defenders but it could do so in a socially equitable way. So much human potential is lost due to barriers of poverty so the emphasis on underprivileged youth is very welcome. Small actions can help decrease pollution and conserve biodiversity! Turn the lights off at night = save energy = save birds Plant more trees = sequester CO2 = save birds Watch: https://youtu.be/08ET47-b13o When birds travel, they take the seeds they have eaten with them and disperse them through their droppings. They bring plants back to ecosystems that have been destroyed, and even carry plants across the sea to new land masses. Birds have helped to shape the plant life we see around us – and around the world. In New Zealand’s forests, 70% of the plants have seeds dispersed by birds such as Tui Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae. An even greater duty is borne by Micronesian Imperial-pigeon Ducula oceanica; as one of the largest birds in the Palau archipelago: it is one of the main seed dispersers across the entire island chain. I shared a similar ad like this one last year. This one is my favorite. “Never stop dreaming”- you are right, I won’t stop. I won’t stop my actions and dreams of a fossil free world. It’s says “Collect points now, and travel 2 for 1 when it suits you”. With other words - buys things on credit (over consumption) and then get rewarded with a “free” flight. A perfect ad in the middle of a pandemic. Do you have any thoughts on commercials like this one? When two problematic businesses collaborate and continue their work, business as usual.
