Pixel Planet Today's post

Day 631: April 1st, 2020. Though dinosaurs were wiped off the face of the Earth millions of years ago, one startup is aiming to bring one back to the mix: plesiosaurus. . Cloning has long been a topic of discussion between experts, but one Canadian startup is planning to bring it to the main stage. Unlike those more commonly talking of resurrecting the woolly mammoth (a species that has only been extinct for about 4,000 years), experts believe that the plesiosaurus could actual bode well in modern times. Woolly mammoths may not fair well in our warming world, but the plesiosaurus could handle warmer oceans, as well as fill the ecological niche left by the massive decrease in global shark numbers. . . You're sharp - yes it's April Fool's! 😉 No, there isn't a startup aiming to clone the plesiosaurus in the near future, but don't let it take away from the seriousness of declining shark populations. Experts estimate that shark and ray populations have declined by more than 70% since 1970 thanks to overfishing practices. Filling the ecological niche with something as wild as a plesiosaurus may solve part of the problem, but an easier, more sensible solution would be to protect the marine creatures we already have. . .
