Keeping an eye on methane emissions with MethaneSAT data

The Middlesex Country Utilities Authority in New York has - according to their website - a gas-to-energy project. The goal of this project is to capture bio methane and use it as renewable energy source. Also, by being state-of-the-art, they reduce the environmental impact of the landfill as much as possible. This is a great initiative as according to data from the MethaneSAT project in September 2023, about 1,600 kg of methane were emitted per hour. Assuming a cow produces 100 kg of methane per year, this is equivalent to 145,000 cows!

As MethaneSAT is now in orbit, it is important to keep an eye on its data to make sure fewer methane is emitted than in 2023, so that we can #BuyMoreTime!

Great idea. Utilizing waste to generate renewable energy is an effective way to reduce environmental impact while promoting sustainability.
