Moving away from a city organized around cars

Some 600 parking spots will be eliminated in the ‘Medieval City’ area of the capital by 2024, as Copenhagen moves to become more bicycle and pedestrian-friendly, according to a new plan presented by the Local Government.
“The goal is to generate a more peaceful city centre that features fewer cars. It should have room for people,” Copenhagen’s mayor for technical issues, Line Barfod.
Copenhagen's officials estimate that about 15,000 cars pass through the Medieval City area every day. Cutting the parking spots will reduce that traffic by 45-60%.
Instead of parking for cars, the space will be reserved for more parking for bicycles, while the roads will be changed to allow cyclists to pedal both ways on some one-way streets.

Cars are a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to global warming. By reducing the number of cars on the road, cities can lower their carbon footprint and contribute to global warming reduction. Great stride!
