⚠"Urgent call to ban chemical pesticides.

"In a major blow to the EU’s Green Deal and Farm to Fork framework, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Tuesday (6 February) that she will withdraw the Sustainable Use Regulation (SUR), which sought to halve pesticide use by 2030." (By Olivia Gyapong in EURACTIV online published on Feb 6th 2024) https://www.euractiv.com/section/agriculture-food/news/von-der-leyen-to-withdraw-the-contested-pesticide-regulation/ The urgency of this matter cannot be overstated, as it not only jeopardizes the well-being of our environment but also endangers the health of both animals and people across the continent. The extensive use of chemical pesticides has raised serious concerns about their adverse effects on biodiversity, soil quality, and water systems. The indiscriminate application of these pesticides has led to the decimation of crucial pollinators such as bees, which play a pivotal role in maintaining the ecological balance and ensuring the productivity of our agricultural systems. The loss of biodiversity has far-reaching consequences for our ecosystems, disrupting food chains and threatening the delicate balance of nature. Furthermore, the detrimental impact of chemical #pesticides on human health cannot be ignored. Studies have linked the exposure to certain pesticides with an increased risk of chronic diseases, developmental disorders, and various forms of cancer. Vulnerable populations, such as children and pregnant women, are particularly at risk, and the long-term consequences of exposure to these harmful chemicals are alarming. It is imperative that we prioritize sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives to #chemicalpesticides, promoting practices that protect both our ecosystems and the health of our citizens. The #europeanunion has a proud history of leading the way in environmental protection with the #eugreendeal and I believe that under your leadership, we can once again demonstrate our commitment to a greener, healthier future. I urge you to follow the sustainable use of pesticides regulation (SUR) seeking to halve the use of chemical plant protection products by 2030 and to completely ban them in ‘sensitive areas’ such as public parks and playgrounds. Do you need help to achieve the goal? Ask Jutta Paulus. We do not have the time or luxury to be derailing harmful pesticide use. It is very unfortunate

This is insane and disappointing! We need representatives and institutional leaders to stop listening to pesticide lobbies and start acting for the common good instead! We need to regulate the use of pesticides, otherwise, we won't manage to transition away from it and we won't manage to leave this destructive intensive agriculture model that ruins nature and people's lives

This is a huge disappointment and step backwards for the EU's Green Deal and the fight against climate change.

This is disappointing from @Ursula and it is going to affect the environment in a bad way. Use of chemical pesticides are a great health hazard to the people, animals and plants and a great danger to soil.
