ABB Powers Washington State's New Hybrid Electric Ferries

Image of post in post detailed view

Washington State Ferries (WSF) has selected ABB as the propulsion single source vendor for its new fleet of five hybrid electric ferries. This partnership marks a significant advancement in sustainable maritime transportation, with ABB providing comprehensive hybrid electric propulsion systems. These systems, including the Onboard DC Grid™ power distribution solution, are designed to enhance operational efficiency and reduce emissions, aligning with WSF's goal of achieving a zero-emission fleet by 2050.
ABB's role in the project extends beyond supplying technology; they will also offer extensive design and engineering support to ensure the seamless integration of hybrid electric technology into the new vessels. This collaborative effort emphasizes ABB's commitment to delivering tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of its partners, helping WSF modernize its fleet and reduce its environmental footprint. The five new ferries are part of WSF's broader $3.98 billion Ferry System Electrification plan, which aims to replace aging vessels and improve the sustainability of ferry services across Washington State.
The partnership is a testament to the shared vision between WSF and ABB for a more sustainable future. Drew Orvieto, Vice President of Sales for Marine Systems at ABB Marine & Ports, highlighted the significance of this collaboration, stating that it reflects their dedication to pioneering advanced technologies that drive the maritime industry forward. With these new hybrid electric ferries, WSF is taking a major step towards its mission of providing cleaner, more efficient ferry services for the communities it serves.
ABB's selection as the propulsion vendor for this project showcases its leadership in electrification and automation. The company’s solutions are designed to optimize how things are manufactured, moved, powered, and operated, leveraging over 140 years of engineering excellence. With a workforce of over 105,000 employees, ABB continues to drive innovations that accelerate industrial transformation, making significant contributions to global sustainability efforts.

Reverse psychology is a fascinating tactic where you encourage someone to do the opposite of what you want, often prompting them to choose the desired action just to assert their independence. 24kbet
