Woola has created an alternative to bubble wrap with recycled wool

Around 200,000 tonnes of sheep wool is left unused in Europe yearly and the Estonian company Woola has come up with ways to use this waste and reduce plastic use at the same time! Woola is using leftover wool to create different packaging options, that are alternatives to fossil-based bubble wrap such as wool envelopes, bottle sleeves, and bubble wool. Packaging made of wool is durable and can be reused multiple times. And Woola is setting up a Returns System to keep the precious material in the loop. Woola opened a production facility in the small town of Paldiski, Estonia and launched its first product in December 2020. The leftover wool they use in their products currently comes from the United Kingdom, but they're now working on a new supply plan that involves sourcing wool directly from local farmers in Estonia they can personally meet and visit. "Replacing bubble wrap with surplus wool is just the starting point. What we’re really aiming to do at Woola is to shift the single-use mindset and make sure e-commerce packaging does not rely on fossil fuels." We love 💚 a circular solution reducing our dependence to fossil-fuels!
