The physical music broker and manufacturer Key Productions conducted this survey that said that 69% of people who buy vinyl would buy a lot more of it if environmentally-friendly products were created.

Growing demand for environmentally-friendly vinyl

Growing up in India as a small child, I saw my grandfather playing the gramophone. The same gramophone continues to stay on in the family and my uncle has carried on the ritual. However, none of the people around us use the gramophone anymore, having switched to more modern forms of music. I thought the world of vinyl was dying. But imagine my surprise when I came across this study that not only are people still buying vinyl records in other parts of the world, they claim they would buy a lot more if provided with environmentally-friendly products! The study further states that not only are people increasingly investing in environmentally-friendly music, another 77% of them claim to pay a premium sum for reduced-impact records. “As consumer awareness of environmental issues continues to grow, it is evident that there is a substantial market opportunity for eco-friendly vinyl records,” said Karen Emanuel, CEO, Key Production. She also added, “Regarding 180g records - while this is often seen by the industry as a more sought-after product, this survey shows that the industry is getting it wrong as consumers aren’t valuing the weight as they think. High-quality records can be made at 140g, and this slightly lower weight can have a hugely positive impact across the whole supply chain." Learn more about the survey conducted by Key Production:

The industry needs to listen! 180g vinyl isn't the only option. 140g sounds great and helps the environment!

I think what this shows is that people are willing to spend a little more money to buy environmental friendly products rather than take the easy way out and buy unsustainable goods that eventually harm them and the planet in general. The population is waking up

Amazing survey.I trust the vinyl industry will embrace less weight eco-friendly products to attract more music customers which will have a positive impact towards the climate action.

@rukia_ahmed_abdi If the market demands environmental friendly products and the customers are willing to pay, I don't think the vinyl producers will have a choice but to tow the line or go out of business.

It's encouraging to see people willing to pay a premium for reduced-impact records, indicating a strong commitment to environmental responsibility within the music industry.

@princess_nel_268 It shows that the civic duty of some citizens is stronger than their will to save s dollar or two. It is the kind of commitment you want to see take place worldwide to lead the green revolution.
