$350 million going to the construction and planning of wildlife road crossings in the United States

Super News! Through the Wildlife Crossings Pilot Project, $350 million in grants are going to become available for the construction and planning of wildlife crossings across the United States! You may have seen wildlife crossings in areas with the most at-risk animals (sometimes looking like human-built land bridges), but the pilot program aims to protect much more than just them. An estimated one million large animals and 200 people are killed every year in motorist-wildlife accidents (an additional 26,000 people are injured over this time). The pilot program won't be enough to prevent all fatalities, but it will give much more insight on the benefits and need of wildlife crossings. . . Read more about the pilot:

. Graphic shows a deer crossing sign. The factoid reads: "The Wildlife Crossings Pilot Project will provide $350 million to construct wildlife crossings across the U.S.." . Under road tunnels are good too for toads and small mammals..

I hope road users will obey this signs. Putting them up is one thing, having them followed is different.

@munene_mugambi we should've made this more clear: the goal of the grants is to replace high impact area signs with wildlife bridges. We're not big fans of the 'Deer Xing' signs either as they don't do much to actively save wildlife.

Super news indeed. Wildlife should be protected and measures for human and wildlife coexistence enhanced.

This is a great measure. Our roads are invading nature, and wildlife needs to be protected from it
