Solar on top

At Koninklijke Grolsch brewery in the Netherlands we are continuously working on making our beer even greener. We are happy to look for cooperation in this. Also in the field of transport. With the ambition for a completely CO2-neutral value chain, we are therefore proud of a new sustainability initiative at one of our transport partners Heisterkamp Transportation Solutions: Solar On Top. When transporter Heisterkamp came up with the idea to do a test with trucks and trailers with solar panels on the roof, we didn't have to think about this! There are currently two trucks for Grolsch, which are equipped with solar panels on the roof. The solar panels ensure that the batteries of the trucks are continuously charged by the solar panels. The big advantage of this is that the tractor does not have to run continuously during loading and unloading. This in turn results in less diesel consumption and less CO2 emissions. Another advantage is that the batteries last longer and the chance of downtime is reduced. The two systems have been operational for several months and the first results are promising. The final evaluation should show whether more trucks with solar panels can hit the road. A sustainable innovation that fits perfectly within the measures that both Heisterkamp and Koninklijke Grolsch want to take to reduce the CO2 emissions of our vehicle fleets.
