Day 634: Easter. Happy Easter everyone! If you're celebrating Easter today, and you have little ones, odds are you'll be taking part in an Easter egg hunt.
.
Easter egg hunts are a common holiday activity around the world, leading to hundreds of millions of eggs being bought for the holiday. In the UK alone, more than 90 million eggs are purchased for Easter. That's a lot of eggs, but also a lot of egg packaging (over 3000 metric tonnes).
.
The holiday doesn't have to mean pure waste though. Eggs can be composted (there are several ways to limiting the smell), and most egg packaging can be recycled. Plastic eggs are an entirely different beast when it comes to sustainability, but as long as you collect all of them and reuse them year after year, you can limit the impact you're having on the planet.
