Post 851: December 8th, 2021. Super News! With their overhaul in renewable energy expansion, China is now expected to reach a 1200 GW wind and solar capacity by 2026, 4 years ahead of their initial goal! To put those gigawatts into perspective, the United States has a solar capacity just over 108 GW, and a wind capacity of 118 GW (wind capacity as of 2020). According to the IEA, the surge comes in light of availability of contracts, improved infrastructure, and cost efficiency when compared to coal. While the country comes in as the world leader in clean energy growth, they will still need to curb other emissions as they are still one of the world's largest polluters.
