Synkero develops a synthetic kerosene facility in the Port of Amsterdam.

An intensive preparation period with key stakeholders in the supply chain resulted in the initiation of Synkero. A start-up company that will focus on the development of a commercial synthetic kerosene facility in Amsterdam. WHY SYNKERO? To keep our world liveable, we need to drastically reduce our carbon footprint The aviation industry depends on fuels with high energy density. Something that, besides all promising developments and innovations, batteries and hydrogen can’t supply in the foreseeable future Therefore production of synthetic kerosene, is the best alternative to reduce airline emissions TECHNOLOGY -Carbon source Multiple sources possible: point source capture (industry), bio-based or Direct Air Capture -Hydrogen production Essential to be green, availability of renewable electricity is a key challenge -Synthesis of CO and H2 Chemical process to produce long hydrocarbon chains -Upgrading to jet fuel -Final use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) https://youtu.be/MQB2VES6Xic

Dear Wil, Thanks for flagging Synkero! It will take further research and cooperation with several partners to put this challenging puzzle in place. We agree to the comment of Uwe when it comes to less flying: "The most sustainable flight is the one that was cancelled". However if we want to decarbonize the aviation sector in the long run, we need to start now and decarbonize the aviation fuel: kerosene. That is where we’re focussing on. We start small, and aim to scale fast (when it makes sustainable and economic sense). Feel free to follow us on LinkedIn: http://www.linkedin.com/company/synkero/

Impressive, convincing and well put together promotional advertising video. But as soon as you look at the process of producing the fuel which is extremely energy hungry and the emissions when used. The green starts to turn to brown and it's environmental benefits pale into insignificance. Monies and investments should be concentrated on true green technology. The more the pot is split the less chance of developing a breakthrough. Until that time, less flying, and less consumption will reap far greater benefits. The question is. Is society prepared to make those sacrifices to save our planet.?
