No fossil fuels in the tank. In February, Lidl became the first grocery chain in Sweden to have only fossil-free transport between its central warehouses and stores. “It is truly a milestone we have reached,” says Lidl's sustainability manager Anneli Bylund to Dagens industri.
In 2017, Lidl became the first grocery chain in Sweden to carbon offset its entire operations. In the same year, the goal was also set that all of the company's transport between warehouse and store would be fossil-free by the end of the 2025 financial year. In January of this year – essentially a year earlier than planned – the last truck with diesel in the tank rolled out of the store's warehouse, meaning that the grocery company has been operating fossil-free since 1 February.

(This is how "fossil-free" is defined
For transport to be considered fossil-free in this context, it is required, in accordance with the proposal for the EU's Renewable Energy Directive and Fossil-Free Sweden's definition, that the fuel provides a 70 percent reduction in emissions compared to fossil alternatives.)
