International Instrument on Plastic Pollution

The Department of Sustainable Development, Ocean, and Environment (DESOMA) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica and CEGESTI, within the framework of the Prevention of Marine Litter in the Caribbean Sea (PROMAR) project, held a session with technical experts to socialize the international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including ithe marine environment. This effort is being made in preparation for the Fourth Session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-4) to be held in Ottawa, Canada from April 23 to 29, 2024; and seeks to analyze different technical perspectives on the revised draft document UNEP/PP/INC.4/3 that will be presented in that country. The topics addressed are plastic polymers, micro plastics and marine pollution, extended producer responsibility (EPR) in plastic packaging and single-use plastics, and comprehensive management of solid waste and prevention of marine debris.
