Canada is set to declare that all newly manufactured cars must be zero-emission vehicles by the year 2035.

The Canadian province of Ottawa is set to introduce the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard, aiming to reduce wait times for electric vehicles (EVs). Concurrently, the Canadian government plans to announce a mandate requiring all new cars to be zero-emission by 2035. The standard dictates that 20 percent of new vehicle sales must be zero-emission by 2026, increasing to 60 percent by 2030 and reaching 100 percent by 2035. Automakers, not dealerships, will earn credits based on EV sales, with values varying based on proximity to the zero-emissions standard. Credits will also be available for contributing to EV charging infrastructure. The move is intended to ensure a consistent supply of EVs in the Canadian market.

Canada's proactive move to declare that all newly manufactured cars must be zero-emission vehicles by 2035 is a significant step toward a sustainable and low-carbon transportation future. The introduction of the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard, with its phased approach and credit system for automakers, showcases a comprehensive strategy to promote the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). The emphasis on building EV charging infrastructure, incentivized through credits, aligns with the broader goal of creating an ecosystem that supports and accelerates the transition to zero-emission transportation. This initiative reflects Canada's commitment to combating climate change and underscores the pivotal role of the automotive industry in achieving environmental sustainability.
