Recycles soaps from hotels and redistributes them to families in need

More than 1.5 million children under the age of 5 die around the world each year due to two diseases (diarrheal diseases and respiratory tract infection) which can been prevented by hand washing. Sapocycle makes 'socially responsible soaps'. The non-profit collects discarded soaps from hotels which often goes unnoticed, reprocesses them (they make a point to provide employment to people with disabilities who have a hard time securing a job) and distributes them to families in need. So far, they have collected almost 24,000 kgs of soaps, redistributed 148,000 soaps and mitigated 49,267 kgs of Co2 from the atmosphere while improving the living conditions of many families.

Sustainability in the hospitality industry has become more and more a priority, specially after the crisis of the COVID-19. With our soap recycling programme in Switzerland and France, we have collected almost 28 tons of used hotel soaps and saved around 55 tons of CO2. 150.000 recycled soaps have been distributed to people in need around the world. Our program is such a successful virtuous circle that we are on the process of developing a social franchising model so all the benefits that it brings on the three levels : environmental, social inclusion and humanitarian can be multiplied taking our initiative to other countries. Transporting the recycled soap overseas cancels the good idea. It is greenwashing. Hotels should have installed refillable pump action containers YEARS ago.

We take advantage of our partner organizations' shipments to include our soaps. We never ship our soaps overseas. Just because we have saved 55 tons of CO2 through our recycling program, it would be unwise of us to throw this away by shipping soaps exclusively, which would produce additional CO2 emissions. We invite you to visit our website. https://sapocycle.org Hotels are in the process of switching to soap pumps, but in the meantime ...what should we do should with the tons of discarded soaps. We decided to recycle them and help others.

It’s great - but there really shouldnt be any single use soaps at all out there.

Hotel accommodation is really a sector where there is too much waste and they need to clean their act

This is why we 're helping hotels take a step further into the sustainability path with our soap recycling program.
