Climate warning

Sweden refuses to pursue the issue of phasing out fossil fuel subsidies at COP28.

According to credible sources, Sweden and our Minister of Climate Romina Pourmokhtari refuse to pursue the issue of phasing out fossil fuel subsidies during the climate meeting in Dubai. This is despite her previously expressing strong criticism of fossil fuel subsidies, including in the We Don't Have Time broadcasts from COP27 last year.
Sweden has also increased its fossil fuel subsidies since COP27, so their adoption of this position for COP28 was unfortunately not so surprising.
Romina: I hope I am wrong. Am I? Are you now openly supporting fossil fuel subsidies? What made you change your mind?

Caving to fossil fuel interests is short-sighted and contradicts Sweden's image as a climate leader. This decision sets a dangerous precedent for other nations.

@george_kariuki Sweden authorities must rethink this approach and take the right decision for the best of our planet.

I would say that climate action calls for unpopular stances and bold decision makers, Sweden must know this is the moment of truth and must stand with the right thing in front of the whole world to save our climate.

Climate action requires consistency, and this reversal contradicts previous commitments and statements.

I have been thinking good about Romina and thought she is doing the best she can considering her allies. But it’s summing up in many things now. Is her true agenda climate?

It is disappointing that Sweden is not taking a proactive approach towards phasing out fossil fuel subsidies, which are detrimental to the environment and hinder the transition to clean energy.
