Eating fish is essential for food security, as it provides essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids.
But while eating fish contributes to the solution of food security, fishery also causes many issues. For example, bycatch causes ecosystems to be harmed more than necessary, as these marine animals cannot contribute to the marine food web anymore.
Because of these negative consequences, reducing bycatch is essential to avoid unnecessary animal deaths.
This is possible by using different fishing gear, but also by using sensory cues to deter animals.
