COP27, the biggest climate conference of the year, is now behind us. Plenty of activists (including ourselves) have some qualms about the outcomes, but there are plenty of good things that also came out of it. Of course, we can't cover everything, but we kindly encourage you to make a quick Google Search to read more. . 🌎 The United States doubled down on their previously made Ocean-Climate commitments. From zero-emission shipping advancements to developing a National Ocean Acidification Plan, the country is looking towards conservation as a means of repairing the climate. After COP27, there are now 17 countries pledging to protect 30% of their ocean waters by 2030. . 🌎 With big names like Greta Thunberg not attending because of 'greenwashing' concerns and the EU threatening at one point to walk out (thanks to a lack of willingness in limiting fossil fuels) - it has surely become one of the most dramatic COPs yet. The EU didn't end up walking out (thankfully), but the conference did struggle in making monumental promises like those from COP26. . 🌎 At the center of everything: negotiations on who should/how to pay 'loss and damages' caused by climate change driven by wealthy nations. While things were initially looking bleak (and led to the extension of the conference), a deal was ultimately made to secure funding for those vulnerable countries. . .
