Vermilion Energy plans to drill 8 new oil wells – guess what? they don't care about our future

Vermilion Energy plans to drill 8 new oil wells in the Teste-de-Buch forest in the South of France.
Yes, you read right. In January 2024, the hottest month on record worldwide, Vermilion Energy announced wanting to extend its oil exploitation. And guess what the company said when protesters started taking the streets in Bordeaux? That, at least, the oil will be "Made in France" 🤡 as if French oil had less impact on climate change than others...
Maybe the most shocking thing is that these oil wells would be constructed exactly where the 7,000 hectares of forest burned in 2022 due to (guess what)... the heatwave and drought and therefore due to... climate change.

The Prefect of Gironde, Étienne Guyot, will now decide whether or not to authorize these new oil wells. So let's put pressure on him! We cannot continue to produce fossil fuels!

Also, I thought you might find it quite funny (ironically funny), but here is what the Bassin d'Archachon writes on their website about Vermilion Energy and it is also what Vermilion Energy writes in its sustainability report:
"Vermilion makes the most of the subsoil resources of the Arcachon Basin and is committed to sustainable development in the region. In concrete terms, Vermilion is committed to the Portes du Pyla eco-neighborhood in La Teste de Buch: a world first in terms of sustainable development. Over a 25-year period, Vermilion will supply 80% of the energy needed to heat the homes in the eco-neighborhood, using heat energy from its production process close to the site". The "site" here refers to their oil production site. Yes, you read it right, they want to power the "eco-neighborhood" with... oil 🤡

This decision shows a lack of concern for environmental sustainability and the long-term impact on our planet. They should be stopped!!!

They have no shame at all in how they cut trees to drill oil. action has to be taken against them.

This is absurd, @VermillionEnergy must be ashamed of this decision and recall it as first as possible. Investing in oil is a danger to our planet.

We have to transition to renewables and reduce our reliance on synthetic materials and plastics so there are no markets for oil..so we have a cleaner healthier planet.
