Does COP26's relative inaction actually matter in the face of societal demands for rapid change?

An interesting perspective on the importance (or not!) of constipated governmental discussions at COP26 in the face of urgent societal demands for climate action from all over the world. Will Hutton, one of The Observer's most experienced economic commentators, argues that businesses are much quicker at reading "the writing on the wall" than politicians, and that this is a reason to nurture optimism: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/nov/14/where-voters-and-consumers-lead-on-the-climate-crisis-businesses-will-have-to-follow?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other Where he is off the mark, for the UK at least, is in stating that our "ossified financial system" will stultify progress. In fact, much of the action in the UK is taking place "under the radar" in the UK's extremely lively crowdfunding sector, where government tax incentives for investments in early-stage companies are driving a strong upsurge in funding for innovative environmental start-ups: recent examples include Small Robot Company (sustainable agriculture), Celtic Renewables (fuels from whisky waste), Orbital Marine Power (floating tidal turbines), CCell (coral-reef restoration) and Ecologi (verified carbon offsets).

More comparison sites are becoming available to allow you to choose companies based on standardised green criteria and avoid greenwashing, too.
