India has a huge untapped potential to combat climate change: Its women!

Climate change is not a gender neutral issue. Women do have a big contribution towards it: their presence or absence does make a big difference. Did you know that India has the highest number of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) graduates in the world? However, the current system makes it very hard for them to pursue careers in these fields. They are hugely underpaid, thus being forced to switch careers, or leave the workforce altogether.

We need more women in the job market. Kudos to ORF, or the Observer Research Foundation, for identifying this issue. They have observed that more women in India should have more economic participation in order to contribute towards climate change.
Climate change affects women a lot more and will eventually drive a lot of women (we are talking hundreds of millions) into migration and poverty. Women have a lot of potential and they can be a big asset towards climate change. Identifying the problem is problem half resolved. A big thank you to ORF for pointing this out. India really need to buckle up and give its women the handholding and support they need in terms of the job market.

I had no idea that India has the highest number of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) graduates in the world. What a waste not to use this amazing resource. I hope this will be on the agenda in the upcoming elections.

In terms of human resource, India has some of the vastest wealth in that regard. They should take advantage of that to fight climate change
