Ng’ang’a Wang’ombe, owner of EsQoffee along the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, faced challenges with a noisy generator while awaiting a national grid connection. Despite paying an installation fee, their application stagnated at Kenya Power. To combat environmental and financial issues, they shifted to solar energy with a $10,000 investment. Seeking financial aid initially proved difficult, but a private investor supported the solar kit installation. EsQoffee now operates cleanly and quietly for 16 hours daily, attracting customers. Wang’ombe emphasizes sustainable practices, sourcing organic coffee, using biodegradable cups, and promoting tree planting. The cafe trains youth in eco-friendly coffee-making processes. https://nation.africa/kenya/health/the-pitfalls-of-clean-energy-transition-4504228
