National Youth Policy Dialogue on Climate Change

Through the lens of NYPDCC Initiative Lead, Ms. Nelam Pari, COO, SDGs Academy Pakistan
As an individual from the indigenous community of Gilgit Baltistan and a survivor of
the 2022 floods, I have come to realize the pivotal role that youth play in shaping
the response to climate change in Pakistan. My vision for the National Youth Policy
Dialogue on Climate Change is deeply personal, rooted in the belief that individual
actions can ignite collective change. I envision a platform where young people like
me are not just participants but also leaders in the fight against climate change. This
vision is guided by the understanding that youth, especially those from vulnerable
regions like Gilgit Baltistan, have unique insights and experiences that can drive
innovative solutions and resilient strategies.
The relationship between youth and climate in Pakistan is intrinsic. The youth of
Pakistan, especially those from regions directly affected by climate change, are at
the forefront of its impacts. They are witnessing the melting glaciers, erratic weather patterns, and the
devastation caused by floods and droughts. Thus, their involvement in climate action is not just essential
but urgent. Through this dialogue, we aim to bridge the gap between the youth and climate discourse,
enabling them to be key contributors to sustainable development, adaptation, and mitigation efforts in
Pakistan. This vision acknowledges that by harnessing the passion and potential of our youth, we can
secure a more sustainable and resilient future for our nation in the face of climate change.
