Climate warning

Sweden's Prime Minister will not go to COP29 in Baku

There is not so much more to add, except that it's the first time this has happened for a Swedish Prime Minister in the warmest year on record, in the middle of disastrous floods in the EU.
I don't know... seems like the wrong decision to me if you want to show that you are a climate leader.

It is disappointing to see a leader of his caliber missing out on the COP discussion as his contribution is important... Shame on him

Sweden's Prime Minister might be signaling that COP29's agenda or the negotiations planned for the event aren't adequately addressing the urgent climate issues that need to be tackled.

Missing out on discussions at COP29 could lead to Sweden falling behind on climate initiatives. The absence may hinder collaboration and limit opportunities to influence key policies that affect the country's environmental goals.

Why would he not take the issue of climate change seriously when it is way much severe than it was a few years ago ?This is wrong.

@jane_wangui but also the UN is treating this as a joke how do you nominate a host that is selling and drill the thing that the meeting is meant to fight?

The cop29 is so disappointing, they cannot be striking fossil deals and expect people to put their energy in trusting them

@annett_michuki i know ... Especially the fact that the host country is among the largest oil drillers in the world is just an insult to environmentalists and advocates of climate justice ...

Honestly, it’s pretty disappointing. This is a critical time when we need every influential leader present, pushing for real climate commitments. I hope they’re not losing their momentum on climate leadership when it’s needed most.

@princess_nel_268 it is definitely a step backwards... And it is very wrong

When we need brave strong leaders where are they?? Our history will look back and ask "why didn't they do anything to save our planet when they had the chance? No one will have a valid answer.

@lucinda_ramsay They were busy giving the people and the wealthy what they want: purchasing power, in other words, basic greed. A nasty trait of human kind.

@lucinda_ramsay and the thought of that time coming soon because of cowards and self interested people we call leaders is just frightening

@Ruben_846 with the trait of prioritizing the profit of planets and the people it is a character that will push us to the tipping point
