A good start into reducing our carbon emissions and overall pollution.

New Zealand is known for its green picturesque landscapes, but with an increase in demand for pasture space and higher production outputs of dairy and meat, we are met with a conundrum. Do we want to continue expanding our largest emitter of emissions, (making up for 48% of our emissions in 2019) or do we want to put the effort into research to find a more sustainable and eco-friendly way to continue production of our largest industry? New Zealand's Zero Carbon bill currently excludes methane emissions instead of opting for a 2030 target to reduce by 10%, and a provisional target of 24-47% reduction by 2050. However, NZ has a plan of introducing "carbon credits" as well as creating big carbon sinks which may help absorb our air pollutants. Nitrates are seeping into our soil and waterways which are degrading the soil nutrients and waterways. Agricultural waste is killing our precious waterways. Meaning that any reclaimed land may not be able to sustain a native ecosystem for the long term. We as a country have a long way to go in regards to sticking to this bill and we need to begin now. We have already put the targets in place and have promised to begin finding ways to reduce our emissions. Thank you for caring about how we can make a way towards a sustainable future. Making sure that meet these goals should be of utmost priority for the environmental and agricultural departments especially. As for NZ citizens, we should continue our support for the changes already made!

I agree. The Zero Carbon act has become legislation already, yet as you said the implementation hasn't fully begun.
