Parliamentary committee approves USAID grant to adapt to climate change negative impact
The Energy and Environment Committee in the Egyptian Parliament approved an assistance grant from the Government of the United States of America to be dedicated for the climate change cause, during a parliamentary meeting.
The grant is part of the Climate Change Initiative, which was signed in September 2022, and amounts to 15 million US dollars, through the United States Agency for International Development.
Enhancing the ability of the Egyptian government to adapt and mitigate the economic, environmental and social impacts of climate change; rationing emissions related to fossil fuels; preserving inter-systems; addressing the loss of biodiversity; preserving the ecosystem of the Red Sea, and strengthening climate systems and infrastructure to improve the climate.
He added that USAID supports the Egyptian government to strengthen its systems to reduce emissions and build resilience in facing the effects of climate change.
The parliamentary meeting also witnessed the approval of Presidential Decree No. 255 of 2023 approving the accession of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the moderate version of the African Regional Cooperation Agreement for Research, Development and Training in the field of nuclear science and technology "afra", which stipulated that the membership of countries would be continuous without renewal instead of work. period every 5 years.
