First U.S. National Strategy to Combat Plastic Pollution Released
Plan covers production, disposal, and removal of plastics, with pioneering measures to reduce environmental impact
10/29/2024 – In the face of the growing accumulation of plastic waste on a global scale, the United States took a decisive step by launching its first national strategy to address plastic pollution. The plan is part of a broader international effort in which 175 countries are negotiating a binding treaty on the issue, with completion scheduled for the end of 2024.
The new U.S. strategy addresses five main areas: plastics production, product design, waste generation, waste management, and capture and removal of plastics from the environment. Several actions are already being implemented by federal agencies and departments, as outlined in the plan.
