Qoala's post

Our customer behaviour survey: Last week we sent out a survey to our users regarding sustainable consumption. The questions were rated 0-5 (0 being the lowest) and, incidentally, the results were quite insightful! We would like to share some of the questions with you: Have you ever bought from a sustainable brand before? First surprise, 50% of our respondents had not bought from ecological sources, ever! Would you like to know when you are purchasing sustainable products? Almost 90% of people would be interested in knowing more about the sustainability of their products. How often do you think about the lack of sustainable alternatives when buying? Let’s cut to the chase here, 72% of respondents believe that there aren’t sustainable alternatives available for them when they’re shopping. So everything so far indicates that people are concerned, at least in a general sense, about environmental issues when shopping. They want to make better choices. Would you be willing to spend a bit more on ecological products if given the option? Well, 45% answered 2 or 3, meaning they’d be willing to do it, but they might give it a second thought. What’s interesting here is that despite making it easier for people to buy products that are sustainable, what will actually tilt the scales towards a better decision will ultimately be price. That’s where Qoala comes in, we want to provide our customers with information on how polluting a product is, help them compensate for this and lower the cost on the better option. Our purchase behaviour is the world’s engine. We want to put it in reverse and drive change to how we consume. PD: Interestingly enough, we also asked about what emoji people associate the most with green initiatives: our users’ answers were 🌍, followed by 🌱 and 🌲. Comment with your favourite emoji! 🐨

I think that it's too hard for people to know if something is sustainably produced, and what the value of a product being sustainable is. That can explain why many haven't bought sustainably before even though it is important to them. Education is key. But the price certainly affects people's choices as well, so your solution is very good! Are you also working with steering your users towards sustainable products? My emoji would be 👭

Hello Adam! Certainly, we're looking into developing a "Conscious mode" option for purchasing that would display the data regarding the product lifecycle emissions and water use so users can make an informed decision when it comes to buying. This same "Conscious mode" would include a redesign of certain aspects within our tools by means of which we would promote local (with the help of geo-localization), sustainable businesses that coincide with our users' interests. If you have any follow-up questions we're here to answer them!

The results of your survey are very interesting, and I am not surprised that the price plays an important role in consumers' choices.
