Japan to add $1.1 billion to UN climate fund

Japan pledged $1.1 billion for the United Nations’ Green Climate Fund, making the country one of the fund’s largest contributors. The current round of fundraising for the U.N.’s climate fund will support projects in climate-vulnerable countries across the globe from 2024-27. The goal is to exceed the $10 billion raised in the last round. https://vitalsigns.edf.org/story/good-climate-news#:~:text=Japan%20to%20add%20%241.1%20billion%20to%20UN%20climate%20fund&text=The%20current%20round%20of%20fundraising,the%20globe%20from%202024%2D27.

Japan's commitment to contribute $1.1 billion to the United Nations' Green Climate Fund is a significant and commendable step in the fight against climate change. This move positions Japan as one of the fund's major supporters and reflects a strong commitment to addressing climate issues. The focus on supporting climate-vulnerable countries from 2024-27 and the goal to surpass the $10 billion raised in the previous round are promising signs of international cooperation and investment in sustainable, climate-resilient projects. It's a positive development in the global effort to combat climate change

Climate change is not just a distant threat; it's affecting us NOW. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and loss of biodiversity impact communities worldwide. But here's the good news: We have the power to make a change! 💪

Every wealthy nation needs to step up and make good on their pledges. They are greenwashing if they do not fulfill their pledges. Greenwashing may look like good P.R. to them, but when the rivers are dry or flooding, the glaciers are disappearing, the sea levels are invading aquifers and basements and undermining infrastructure, that P. R. Will breed contempt for government and its officials. In the USA, contempt for government and officials is already growing fed by disinformation in our media coming from enemies. Our government is tied in knots and unable to perform the most basic tasks because of the disinformation that our Republican Party has accepted and promoted. Sewing discord and failure to work together (or even acknowledge!) the crisis of climate could be the thing that takes human society into the abyss.

Rich nations vowed billions for climate damages. They haven’t delivered https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2023/10/09/rich-nations-pledged-poor-ones-billions-climate-damages-they-arent-paying/ Years of failed promises of help from rich countries could undermine success at the upcoming global climate talks, #COP28

Japan's pledge of $1.1 billion to the UN's Green Climate Fund is a positive step towards addressing climate change and supporting vulnerable countries. It is important for developed nations to contribute to such funds to ensure that global efforts towards mitigating climate change are effective and equitable.
