Egypt has taken a significant step toward transforming its renewable energy landscape with the announcement of a 3.2 GW hybrid wind and solar power project in the Suez Governorate. The project, which aims to repower the aging Zafarana wind farm, is the result of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between TAQA Arabia, Voltalia, and the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.The MoU, facilitated by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), signals a bold move to integrate wind and solar technologies at one site, making it the nation’s first combined renewable energy plant. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, underscoring the government’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy initiatives.
