Electric Vehicles to Stand Out with Green Number Plates in Kenya

In a major move to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles, kenyas transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced the introduction of special green-coloured number plates for electric vehicles (EVs). The announcement was made during the launch of the e-mobility policy draft at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Wednesday, March 27. These distinctive number plates will be issued to motorists owning electric vehicles and motorcycles, marking a notable step in Kenya’s journey towards sustainable transportation.Another such incentive includes negotiating with county governors to allocate priority and discounted parking spaces for electric vehicles.

It is good to help ID green vehicles from fossil based cars but I'm also afraid this is another cash grab by the Kenyan government where they've realised a niche in the transport sector and want to exploit it for their own gain. It is true we need to know what car is what but the motives of the Kenyan government remain in question

@elizbeth_gathigia I think if they really want to see an uptake in electric vehicles, the best encouragement would be no Value Added Tax to green cars and bikes, right? Plus we have to ensure these vehicles do not become obsolete in two to three years after batteries die.
