IBM issued its first corporate policy on environmental responsibility 50 years ago
Day 749: July 28th, 2021. A lot of companies have recently been jumping in to announce their climate pledges, but there aren't many that have been working towards a greener future for decades.
.
IBM, a company that was at the forefront of the technology revolution, has been for 50 years! In 1971, the company issued its first corporate policy on environmental responsibility, and in 1995, started publicly disclosing its CO2 emissions. Their climate policy has come a long way since those early days, but IBM is still committing to reducing its impact. Earlier this year, IBM updated its sustainability goals to further lower greenhouse gas emissions by 65%, invest in over 3,000 energy conservation projects, and get 75% of its energy from renewable sources - all by 2025. By 2030, the company aims to have 90% of its energy come from renewable sources, and within the next two years, it will even plant 50 pollinator gardens at different locations around the globe.
