China’s Steel Hub Tangshan Orders Measures to Cut Air Pollution.

China’s top steel producing city of Tangshan has lifted emergency measures to tackle a recent three-day bout of heavy air pollution, the city Government said in a statement on Wednesday.
The steps taken included restricting the production of sintering machines at steel mills, halting the production of a range of building materials such as cement and ceramics and a ban on the mixing of concrete and spraying paint outdoors. In addition, no natural gas furnaces or coal boilers were allowed to be used by heavy industry.
The announcement added that the city would continue to enforce measures under Beijing’s pollution campaign that started on Nov. 15 and will last until March 15.

It is encouraging to see that Tangshan, a major steel hub in China, is taking steps to reduce air pollution. The steel industry is a significant contributor to air pollution, and it is important for companies and governments to take responsibility for their impact on the environment. Hopefully, other cities and industries in China will follow Tangshan's lead and implement measures to reduce pollution.

Tangshan's actions to address air pollution are a vital step in combating climate change. The measures to limit industrial activities and enforce pollution controls demonstrate a commitment to cleaner air and sustainability. Such initiatives are essential for reducing environmental impact and improving public health in heavily industrialized areas like Tangshan.

Climate change is significant and primarily attributed to human-induced greenhouse gas emissions. The evidence is pervasive, and its impacts are progressively intensifying. There has been a substantial decrease in both Antarctic and Arctic sea ice extents. The global temperatures rising above pre-industrial levels. Incidents of droughts, floods, storms, heatwaves, and wildfires are witnessing increased intensity and frequency. Carbon dioxide levels have surged by over 50%, and methane levels have increased by 150%, leading to global warming at a rate 10 times faster than historical natural variations. Consequently, Earth's climate is surpassing natural thresholds, with carbon dioxide and temperature levels unprecedented in the last 3 million years. #ClimateAction

Tangshan is one of the 10 cities in China with the worst air quality. This is an impressive move to make.

Reducing air pollution can also reduce emissions of carbon dioxide and other climate pollutants, such as black carbon particles and methane, therefore contributing to the near- and long-term mitigation of climate change
