Slottsholmen on Water in Västervik (Sweden) is largely self-sufficient in terms of fresh water and energy.
The floating hotel, which is located by the harbor in Västervik, has a strong sustainability profile and the water surrounding the building is protected.
- Slottsholmen on Water is probably the world's most environmentally friendly hotel. The east coast usually has problems with low groundwater levels when the sun shines most in the summer and just then we can not use all the electricity that the roof produces. We make water with the help of the surplus energy, I thought, and so it was. The brackish water of the Baltic Sea is well suited for desalination, says Björn Ulvaeus.
- The idea with Slottsholmen on Water has from the beginning been to offer something extra, both in terms of guests' experience but also in terms of sustainability. With our own desalination plant and solar panels for the production of our own electricity, we want to reduce the hotel's impact on the environment. The maintenance of these is crucial for us to have the full effect of our sustainability investments, adds Anna Ulvaeus, CEO, Slottsholmen.
