With Foodwatch targetting major food brands to compel them to reduce their plastic packaging

Pasta, sweets... Empty food packaging up to 68% of the product ; this number seems insane.
Herta, Carambar, Côte d'Or, Daco Bello, Herta, Rana : these (brands have 30 days to reduce the size of their plastic packaging. Otherwise, Foodwatch and Zero Waste sue them. The two associations had already denounced half-empty food packaging in 2020; more recently, the association Consumption, housing and living environment (CLCV) also pointed to this waste in a study carried out on more than 250 food products.
But this shocking practice is going on in the agro-industry, as evidenced by the numerous reports sent to associations by consumers. This time, Foodwatch and Zero Waste have decided to join forces and strengthen their action by requiring the reduction of plastic packaging of these 5 companies. They have selected emblematic cases and measured the volume of the products to assert the difference between the empty part and the full part.
They noticed that a bag of Batna (Krema) is 44% empty; a tray of Herta dice bacon is 54%; packets of Côte d'Or chocolate squares have a 60% void content, such as Girasoli with porcini mushrooms from the Rana brand. The worst result goes toDaco Bello shelled hazelnuts, with 68% vacuum. “We also want to send the message to other manufacturers by letting them know that our action could very well have targeted their products”, explains Alice Elfassi, lawyer at Zero Waste. The two NGOs are also calling on consumers to sign a petition to exert pressure.
This over-packaging goes against the urgent efforts that manufacturers must make to reduce their waste. At the same time,is misleads the consumer about the actual quantity of food contained in the package. The five pinned brands have 30 days to act either by removing these oversized packaging from the shelves, or by modifying the packaging. If they fail to do so, the associations will go to court.

Plastics are and will forever be a threat to the environment due to their state of not decomposing. Alternative measures should be implemented

I believe we can do without plastics as a way of packaging. There is so many alternatives to plastics that are both reusable and biodegradable

A unity of purpose, this will surely reduce plastics packaging, hence reduce plastic pollution in the long run.
