This year almost all the sessions in climate hub by We Don't Have Time were very enriching. It is difficult to pick and choose one or two for expressing climate love! However, one tiny interview ( 12:56 min) stands out for its unique scientific implications along with its profound impact on survival of human civilization. It's the interview of J C Jung by Nick Nuttal about "Ice memory" project. Seven premier research institutes have joined hands to preserve our planetary memory, which is safely stored by Mother earth in ice of Arctics or Antartica. A water droplet which has frozen 10000-15000 years ago often has captured an air bubble now tells the scientists about the gaseous composition of air at that time, at the very beginning of human civilization. It is not only about how pure was the air at that time but also the ice has stored fossils of different live forms. Unfortunately, we are now missing this important part of history which links us with our evolution. These ice sheets are now melting due to climate change and soon we may lose a significant part of our planetary memory. Sensing this urgency Seven research institutes are collaborating to save specimens of these ice cores. It is understandable that conservation of ice of entire Antartica or Arctic is not possible with rapidly melting glaciers and ice sheets, but scientists are now desperately trying to store some parts of these reservoir of history of earth. The longest ice core of 700 meter or 2100 feet is now going to be saved at an ice sanctuary at Antartica. The height of ice core is super critical because water gets deposited and froze and ice at each layer of this 700 m sample has the fingerprint of that era. The project website (

) informs us about the mission of ICE Memory foundation and the Antartica Treaty. It shows us how the ice shall be stored in proposed sanctuary at Concordia. Like any excellent scientific endeavour, this project also need fund of 30 million Euros by 2025. J C Jung , Ambassador of this Ice-memory project came forward for informing everyone about it and for fund raising. Moving the money is so much important to decelerating this washing away of planetary memory.
Philanthropic organizations or individuals can donate as surviving in Antartica for miniating sancturay at -50 degree centigrade is not easy task. The website says that even following them at linden may be useful/
Climate love and gratitude to WDHT for bringing this important scientific challenge before the larger audience.
