Stockholm is planning a 900-meter-long red cycle lane on Surbrunnsgatan in Vasastan, where cyclists will have priority and drivers' speeds will be adapted to the cyclists.
A change in legislation now allows municipalities to designate special bike lanes, with the speed of the lane being set by the cyclists themselves. This is especially important for narrow streets where there is not enough space for a separate bike lane, and is crucial for increasing traffic safety. Surbrunnsgatan is one of the main cycling routes in Stockholm, according to the city's long-term cycling plan.
Traffic Councilor Lars Strömgren says, "Drivers drive on the conditions of cyclists and will be guests on the cycle lane." The new cycle lane is part of Stockholm's long-term cycling plan and is designed to increase safety and prioritize sustainable transportation.
The cost of the new cycle lane is estimated to be 23 million SEK and Stockholm has invested over 2.1 billion SEK in cycling infrastructure over the past 10 years. The cycle lane is expected to be completed by the end of the year. I am hoping this will be the first one of a long series!

Great! This will greatly reduce the average of one person's carbon emissions from transportation when they cycle.
