Day 685: May 25th, 2021. Saving our forests is one of the best ways to protect wildlife, preserve our air, and reduce our overall carbon footprint all in one swift motion. There are a lot of factors that go into where to protect first, but if it went by where most of the forests were - you'd have just 5 options. . Fact: Of all the forests on Earth, more than 50% can be found within the borders of 5 countries - Russia, Brazil, Canada, the United States, and China. Add in the next top 5, and you get two-thirds of all the Earth's forests. . But that doesn't necessarily mean that's where forests are at the highest risk. In 2015, Brazil, Tanzania, and Indonesia were among the countries with the highest deforestation rates. The largest share comes from large-scale commercial agriculture (40%!), while a third comes from local agriculture operations. . .
