Each year, an estimated 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean. Did you know that personal care products are a major source of micro plastics? They get washed away into the oceans through our bathrooms.
Lets look at some of the plastics we use on a daily basis
What's in your bathroom?
Many people are not aware of just how much plastic is hidden in their beauty and personal care routine. Take a look at your bathroom.
Tampons
Did you know that the average woman will go through 11,000 disposable menstrual products in her lifetime? This generates an enormous amount of waste & cost - from the plastic in the material to the plastic packaging that it comes in.
Action Statement
Switch to a menstrual cup or re-usable pads, and never flush menstrual products down the toilet.
Common plastic ingredients include: polyethylene (PE), polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), nylon, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or polypropylene (PP)

Cosmetics (e.g. lipstick, mascara & eye shadow)
Did you know micro plastics are added to all kinds of cosmetic products to regulate viscosity, and provide colour & sparkle?
Action Statement
Check the ingredients for plastics, stop using products with glitter in, and switch to plastic free products.

Plastic, disposable razors
Did you know over 4 billion plastic disposable razors are thrown to landfill every year?

You can get a razor to last a lifetime by using a safety razor instead of disposable ones.
