OPPOSING LANDMARK LAW
Poland opposed a weekend Brussels-Berlin deal to exempt e-fuel-only cars from a 2035 combustion engine ban.Five officials from various countries told Euronews on condition of anonymity that Bulgaria and Romania abstained during an ambassadors' discussion on Monday morning.Their combined opposition falls shy of the votes needed to stop Tuesday's legislative approval.The Brussels-Berlin deal mandates a 100% decrease in CO2 emissions for new EU car and van sales by 2035.The European Commission designed the law as "technologically neutral," but CO2 emissions will be measured at the exhaust pipeline, essentially banning petrol and diesel car sales after the cut-off date.

The deal was delayed for weeks after Germany called for an exemption for cars running on e-fuels.
