Planning 75km long urban forrest belt around the city

To fight extreme temperatures & deal with air pollution Madrid plans to plant half a million trees around the city, acting as a carbon sink for the Spanish capital. – What we want to do is to improve the air quality in the whole city. To fight the ‘heat island’ effect that is happening inside the city, to absorb greenhouse gas emissions generated by the city, and to connect all the existing forest masses that already exist around the city, says Mariano Fuentes, Madrid’s councillor for the environment and urban development. I think we need to keep working to figure out different ways to bring nature back into our cityscape, instead of letting city’s push nature away. Well done leaders of Madrid for the plans to add large nature elements to your city.
