Every time an apple is thrown, 70 liters of water is being wasted.
And, 128 liters of water is used to grow just one pound of potatoes.
All foods have a water footprint, which is the amount of water used to produce them directly or indirectly. However, some have bigger footprints than others.
There is a direct relationship between food production and water, therefore wasting food also means wasting large quantities of water. (Food Waste: A Shame for Human Society.)
